How about...... an equipable magnetic docking ring?

Watching the Alphans caper around the spacestation on youtube (for which they have my thanks) I wondered if there had been any discussion about being able to equip your ship with a magnetic docking ring or equivalent enabling you to:

Cling limpet like to a revolving spacestation (enjoying the view)

Dock with another ship (for tea and biscuits etc)

Gain entry to a derelict ship for examination/looting

I guess at least some of these activities will need to be addressed, has there been any word?

My guess is that we won't see anything like this until the FPS 'Walking around' expansion, but we will see docking with another ship/looting derelict ships - it would be a wasted opportunity if we couldn't do those things in an FPS type of environment and i don't see FD missing the chance of adding some really good deep space gameplay.

There are plans for ships to be able to dock to each other, i would like to see magnetic landing gear as an optional purchase at some point allowing for landing on bigger ships and getting out on the hull to look for a way in.

That puts me in mind of something like this

Obviously not docking, but could be a fun way of refueling using another player as a tanker.
