In ED you can get away with doing a certain amount of dirty deeds, and then the ATR ships show up and show you the error of your ways.
So, how about if there was an in-game group who's purpose was to do the opposite?
FDev catch quite a bit of criticism for the way they handle nerfs.
They get into work on a Monday morning, fire up their PCs, twiddle some settings and it's bye-bye surface scans, bulk passenger missions or (most recently), skimmer missions.
How about if, instead of that, there was a group of in-game "reapers" who could show up at things like Smeaton or Volynov and gradually, over a period of a couple of days, dial-up the hostilities and make it impossible for players to continue doing whatever they're doing?
We'd all be happily doing our gold-rush thing and, at first, we'd see the odd "Reaper" Viper or Cobra.
They'd send messages saying things like "We've heard you've got a good thing going here and we're here to take over the action" and they'd attack player ships.
They could be fought or avoided and we could carry on but we'd know the end was nigh.
After a day or so, there'd be Reaper Anacondas and Corvettes in the area, winged with Vultures and FdLs and it'd be all but impossible to continue with the gold-rush.
And, behind the scenes, FDev would have a couple of days to try and untangle the mess in a more elegant manner, instead of just disabling entire chunks of the game.
