How about bringing Back the Drop Mining Stations from earlier Elite Games ? :)

In Earlier Elite Games I think there was this Mining Station that you could Drop on Ore Veins on a Planet :p
Which would then Mine stuff and could be Collected later :)

About adding that to the Game again ? :p
Allowing us to do some Proper Planetary Mining :)

I asked about this last year at LaveCon, Dav said it would be nice but currently it's not technically possible (because of all the background stuff that would need to go on).

But from what I know it's on "The List"

I see.
Too bad.

I hope they work out a way to do it tough.

Would be fine if they just made it like the Vehicle Bay.
Making it a Manned or Remote Controlled Vehicle that you can Drive around yourself while Mining or something :)

Should work then as it would not be part of any Backround stuff :)

Drop mining stations?
What is op referring to? The MB4 Mining machine?
I can understand that that would not work well in a multiplayer universe.

But we could have a different planetary mining system, more akin to mining in Asteroid rings.
We might use a specialized mining SRV.
I would love that kind of thing.

A mining SRV like this, but cooler, would be nice:

Something like this could get me back into the "minaconda" which is far too underused at the moment. They definitely need to do something to make mining a bigger part of the game, i for one would be extremely happy if we could one day get out of our helm seats and walk down to the refinery to either take part, watch, or just listen to the refinery process.

There are already suitable models in the games assets, look at the engineers bases (salene jene?) and those little little remote mining colonies you sometimes stumble upon on planets surfaces if derping about in an SRV. There is IMHO only one reason we cannot have such devices, especially the latter smaller ones, and that is the lack of persistence of the universe.

If you drop 2x units of cargo from your SRV, and mode switch, or hit supercruise then return to the coordinates where you deployed the cargo, its gone. We would need an element of persistence to the universe where if you drop said cargo, log out and go to work, its still there when you log in in the evening otherwise your MB4 mining machine mogul career would require you to be handcuffed to those assets praying the server doesnt disconnect you.

I'd be interested in prospecting planets, then buying mineral rights to resource rich zones and hauling deploying and servicing (taking supplies to maintain, and extracted resources from) my mining rigs. Even better yet, let me add modules to that settlement, turrets and skimmer hangars to stop rouge SRV pilots shooting up and plundering my mining settlement, let me add Anti ship turrets to declare a no fly zone, let me really mean business and add a ship launched fighter hangar to launch Condors or GU-97's from to police the no fly zone, let me add a landing pad so I can dock one of my ships at.

Nearly all those assets are in game, bar the planetside SLF hangar, why can't we buy deploy and use them?

Really hoping Planetary Mining becomes a thing one day :)

- head out into the black
- prospect Metal-Rich Planets
- fire the Prospecting Scanner
- inspect and sample candidate areas on the Planet on the Ground
- try to locate that sweet spot
- return to deploy small or medium Mining Rigs
... or return and setup/construct a small/medium/large Mining Installation (and protect it with defenses against its stockpile being looted ;) )
