I have never understood all the fascination about achievements. Especially when they got granted by trivial stuff. You play the game, made your first jump? Achievement unlocked. Scooped a star? Achievement unlocked. Scanned a stellar body? Achievement unlocked. Damn... what kind of an achievement is this?
True. I don't like those achievements either. Too easy. Like the ones in NMS, you get them in a day or two. I was thinking more like going to the Zurara rift expedition derelict in Syreadiae JX-F C0 where you have to use the Heisenberg Bridge to cross. You kind'a need an FSD engineered ship to begin with, and also know how to use the neutron path, etc.
Achievements are meant to show that you actually achieved something big. Unusual. Like travel to the core of the Galaxy under XX hours. Not the fact going there alone. Within given frames. Which requires proper ship with proper equipment (non engineered to get rid of luck RNG). This is an achievement. Driving for X km / minutes in a rover isn't.
That's what I meant with achievement. The big things. Not "managed to dock in a station" (even though it's an achievement the first week a beginner plays it, lol).
And IF we get achievements implemented I bet it will be as in other games. Someone already mentioned that: bought first ship? Replaced a mod? Your first engineering roll? First discovery? First jump? First 100 LY covered? Meaningless. They will probably put Hutton into achievement too. And since it will be an achievement people will go there just to get some virtual point for going there.
You might be right. So perhaps we should have a thread in the forum instead where we put in suggestions for high award achievements? I have a list, but I'm sure eventually I run out of ideas.
I , personally, couldn't care less about achievements. Got that in WoW and after initial interest I don't mind them, with the exception of major game play issues that are hidden behind achievements (like unlock flying). Oh look, I got my character to level 60. Wee... not. I would get to level 60 anyway on my way to max (which is currently 110). Getting achievement for that means nothing. Same will be in ED. I made 1k LY distance? Cool, except I'd do it anyway because I'm trading.
Yeah. Those aren't the ones I was thinking of. Going to Sag*A or Beagle's point are some that I have on my bucket list which I think are more high awards than "managed to turn on computer" award.
Achievements are meh but I suppose there are poeple who need a pat on their back because they managed to put a full spoon into their mouth without spilling its content.
To me, the idea wasn't to get a pat on my back but rather to give me (or help me) make the bucket list. And sure, it also feels good of course when you've accomplished it. But it's not for everyone, just like PVP combat is basically at the bottom of my list.

Besides, we already do have several achievement systems built into ED, ranking, reputation, and other, and they don't hurt the game, or at least I don't think they do. Becoming read admiral and get access to federal corvette, is that a "NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!" also? A rank is basically just a graded achievement as any other. So why can't we have one for exploration?
