How about multiple characters per account?

I was wondering how I would be able to play with friends while exploring 10.000 light years away.
Does that mean having to buy a second copy of the game? But what about if I have the lifetime or beta?
Buying the whole game again for a second account is too expensive...$10 per account would be ok to me, that way I could have an explorer when I want to be alone and a pirate attacking other factions when I want some action. At the moment I can do that but I need 2 accounts and that is not very efficient

any chances in the future?

Yeah, I'm interested in this too. Want a second character to play ironman. Haven't heard anything official lately, but I've seen in other threads that FD said this would happen eventually, but isn't a priority.

i've not seen where they said it 'would' happen but have seen where they said its something they are considering at one point in time

Only if you own multi copies of the game, that is how it works. You could affiliate that with one account, however they should be treated as separate characters.

Seems like free money for Frontier, they could even price it at $50 and people who have bought the expansions may still buy it.

Hmm... If all the bounties and crimes are shared, then certain - otherwise sort of 'meh'.

What a brilliant idea, so you're saying you shouldn't be allowed to have two characters on opposite sides of the fence?

That has long been the response of those against multiple characters as they believe if multiple characters are allowed per account suddenly everyone will make a second character just to go grief all the newbs. Because obviously right now everyone is afraid of the crime mechanics or tarnishing their good names, it is the only thing stopping them from killing every person they see! You'll see that written time and time again if this thread takes off.

Anyway OP as the others have said, FD has stated this is going to happen but it is low priority. Obviously very low as that was said at least 6 months ago, I'm fairly sure longer than that.

Sandro already heavily implied he'd like multiple CMDR's per accoun5, saying it would be beneficial for being able to show family members and friends the game without altering your own account and progress.

As someone who is both a roleplayer and a serious altoholic, I'd definitely like to see multiple character slots, especially as we're getting faces/avatars in Horizons.

I think elite need 2 mods: Real (Open) and "private" (Private groups) and need 2 différents Chars, one for private and the other for solo. Actually it's so much easy to trade on solo ect, it's destroying the possibility to build corporation of traders/miners (and impossibility to give money too...)

Elite want to be multiplayer or solo? Cause actually he is on the middle and he is bad at twice.

I decided to just used the Steam sale to get a slot.

Even though I do not see this game as any kind of MMO, the price for another slot was not much more than I would have paid within a normal real MMO game (One with more than 32 players to interact with at any one time).

They make this claim without realising (or acknowledging) that it would be the account that would suffer if a person started being a complete plonker rather than the character acting as one.

In other words: You can be a completed idiot. But you risk the entire account not just a single character.

Absolutely. If FD finally got around to punish griefing newbies, something even a game like EVE frowns upon, you hopefuly wouldn't get around whatever sanctions come your way by simply switching characters.
Bounties and the like aren't there to punish the player so there's no sense in making them persist across characters.

Multiple commanders needs to happen..and soon. It is unfair on those who purchased the lifetime pass..I am going to buy Horizons on a separate a/c, so I can have the flexibility to clear save and explore without losing my current status/location, or play iron man etc..I have only just regained my Lt Cmdr rank after clear saving a mnth ago, and that has been hard work, so I wont be clear saving again on this a/c..no way, Pedro! If this feature had been in place or a time frame given, when Horizons was announced, I would have got my lifetime expansions out of the way, there and then! £10 per a/c seems reasonable - what's that in third world US $?..about a bucket full or something! :)

Lots of MMOs make money by offering extra character slots.

The bonus over buying a separate account would be that it would carry all the same access to expansions. As such it would be worth £20.

How do you want to handle "pushing" between characters and/or accounts? E.g. one person will log into more toons and do stuff that would gain him advantages otherwise inaccessible with just one? Would you openly allow such interaction as in EvE or would you develop policies and mesures to control it (a.k.a police state?)

Just interested, one toon keeps me busy enough. Only time I would appreciate it is in case I am exploring somewhere far away and want a change of playstile and can't just quickly move and reequip to say RES bashing Vulture.

Just one little detail you ignored.

Most, if not all of them, offer more than one free character slot to begin with.

Personally, i really want a second character. Something like Dr Jekyll and Mr Hide. One of the characters can be very useful to do a lot of shenanigans and con jobs, and the other my main, just a pure killer/hitman.
