How about stations let you pay bounties instead of killing you?

Well, that's about it. How am I supposed to pay off a bounty (I didn't tell the cops to cross my beam) if I get killed trying to dock?

You're supposed to go to an Anarchy system, and pay the bounty off there. While I feel for you as far as sometimes the bounties you get are bullcrap (like NPCs seemingly flying into the path of fire on purpose), once you DO get a bounty, you need to dock at a faction port where you are not wanted, or even more safely an Anarchy system.

you have 3 options:

1. dock at an outpost and pay it off there
2. dock at a station belonging to a different faction (Empire/Federation/Alliance)
3. sneak in without being scanned by the police hanging around outside the port.

Is this supposed to be how it happens across the board?

I took my first steps into bounty hunting over the weekend, and last night while shooting up a perp at the nav beacon I accidently brushed another bounty hunter with my beam lasers which immediately hit me with an assault fine.

It was quite funny, I scanned the perp, saw him to be wanted expert in an asp, thought twice about taking him on on my own, but then these two other guys stepped in and started to take him out, so then I swooped in with my beams (hitting the other guy while I was at it and getting the fine) but as I got the kill shot in I got the 30K bounty :)

Elation was short lived as then I immediately had two bounty hunters on my tail blasting me for the assault, and no doubt for nabbing the bounty. I managed to FSD outta there but now I had a bounty on my head in Federation space.

I just flew to the nearest Federation station, was able to dock un-harassed and pay my fine off there…

My bounty was only 400C, so does the value of the bounty have any effect on whether you are likely to be able to pay a fine at the faction that wants you?

A much discussed topic and quite frankly another Beta placeholder mechanism which should never have translated to Live.

I am pretty careful with my aim but there are times when you get the police flash across your fire line and you are wanted.
on the other hand!
You fly across any NPC's fire line and you get hit take damage and the NPC has no penalty (In Beta the police got flagged wanted and were fair game btw).

"SURELY" we can have a warning message onscreen to check your fire, that would work!

REALLY!!! Would it work or would you just keep on playing in your current style ignoring the the friendly fire you keep getting a warning for because other than being warned you don't get penalised.
Personally I think the fine for friendly fire should work like a fine for smuggling/carrying stolen goods you got 24hours to pay before you get wanted/bounty status.

Well then you limit the warning, one warning, if you do it again after than you get a bounty on your head.

Defeats the entire point and danger of a bounty. So, hell no.

"Oh I see that you're a criminal. How cute. Here darling, just pay us 400cr and we'll wipe your entire criminal history".

It would be nice to be able to pay off fines remotely, basically you can do it from wherever you are at all times.

Fines, why not? But the point of a bounty is to reward someone for bringing a criminal to justice, alive or dead. Not just pay a bail and go free, even though it does feel like that considering how easy it is to wipe one's record when docked.
