How about visual effects for drive types?

How about a rainbow trail? Friendship drive charging!

We need this! :)

On the suggestion itself: hmm, yea. It basically would be nice. It was requested ages ago, but by now it lost a lot of its value. I mean, formerly engineered weapons also had their own colors and stuff. Weapon colors killed that. The same problem we have here. Now your dirty drive leaves puffs of dirty brown smoke. Unless you activate your pink drive color, then you again leave behind clouds of cotton candy.

Yep, That is why I wasn't happy to see weapon and engine trail colors appear in the store. I would have liked to see colours based on the mods you use.
It would have been so cool to be able to guess certain modifications based on weapon and engine trail colours.

Actually in a way i was happy about weapon colors. My ship at some time really had the "rainbow warrior" feeling, due to several different engineering effects in use. And if you watch closely, several engineered weapon effects can still be seen with weapon colors. For example use a restorative beam laser. With this effect active, you don't fire a straight beam any more, but it has wave forms at the sides. I am under the impression that several other modifications do similar things, but it's much harder to see on high speed projectiles than on the constant beam.

So thinking it over, perhaps something like that can be done for engines, by looking at the volume of the smoke they leave behind. Regular engines could leave a normal trail of smoke, clean could result in a much smaller trail, reinforced might result in several smaller trails in a cluster (feel free to find any technobabble explanation for that) and dirty might randomly add bigger puffs of smoke to the trail.

Engine color would still modify their color, while the engineering effects would modify the shape and size of the trail.
