How accurate are steam's requirement infos?

Question #1 is in the title.
Question #2: Has Horizons 4.0 the exact same requirements as Odyssey?

According to the minimum requirements posted on steam, Horizons 3.8's requirements already are pushing at the boundaries of my computer. 🥵
Odyssey wouldn't run on that thing. 😒

From what I can tell, if you buy Horizons for the first time on Steam, you'll still get 3.8, which is what the requirements are for. Horizons 4.0, which is an optional install from the launcher, will indeed be much closer to Odyssey's requirements.

So if you're buying Horizons for 3.8, I'd say go ahead. If you're buying it for 4.0, I don't think you'll be happy. And unfortunately you won't be able to refund it based on Horizon 4.0 performance, because you are buying 3.8, not 4.0 (which is basically a free demo).

I don't know about your machine, but my potato (i5 3570K / 8 GB RAM / GTX 970) runs 4.0 in stations between 60-75 fps (sometimes a peak downwards) and outside of stations well above 100 (usually about 125).
I killed some Cyclopses early this morning and I'm even using EDHM (which allegedly lowers the framerate).

Until now I did not land on planets so I cannot give any information about planet surfaces, installations or the SRV.

Cheers and O7

Answer to Q1: The requirements are underestimated and mainly work in space, though your mileage may vary. For foot content, the given requirements are, due to lack of optimization, completely underestimated. A 1060-6GB will struggle with loading and unloading texture data as the game tries to keep 8 GB VRAM at all times.

Answer to Q2: The same requirements for Odyssey count for Horizon 4.0, though as answered in Q1, they are inaccurate.

That's way more than I have to offer:
Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-10210U CPU @ 1.60GHz 2.11 GHz...
I also have 8GB Ram, but no dedicated graphics card, which means shared memory, most likely around 2GB...
According to the MS Store page of FH5, there is less than 4GB of video memory.

At 1080p, in Ultra, on a i7-7700k and a GTX 1080, solid 60fps in space and on planet and on foot. Not checked it lately in a on foot combat zone.

Well, I managed to get 4.0 installed and got it running.

But it was so sluggish that it was no sense in going on playing it. Which is a bummer as I liked what I saw so far.

If every input is answered with a second of commemoration of Conrad Zuse, even in the station menu, you definitely know that there isn't enough processing power in your ship's core...

May I suggest giving Geforce Now a try? As long as you have a reliable internet connection with a 15mb/s or greater connection speed, the service works like a charm running Odyssey. I use it all the time to run the game on my Chromebook!

Horizons in space should be fine, 3.8 and 4.0 are comparable most of the time ( 4.0 is darker )
On the ground is where the problems start, driving an SRV in 3.8 and 4.0 you will definitely notice the difference in frame rates with 4.0 being a lot worse, even though in 4.0 you will have the simplified planets with their cut-n-paste hand crafted assets tiled randomly vs 3.8 procedurally generated planet terrain.

OP doesn't even have a GPU, I doubt that Horizons in space will be fine. No matter if 3.8 or 4.0...
