Elite / Frontier How am I suppose to stop this?

When I went to a station I got a message from the police asking for the first letter from a page in this handbook or something. So I pressed a random key and the message went away. The same thing happens in the next system, but after I launched I get this and a game over screen.

So I think that you downloaded the mirror of the shareware package from FrontierAstro.
In the game folder you should find a file "protect.txt" which contains the answers that you need to give to the copy-protection questions.
Yes, back in the day, those of us who bought such games had to flick through game manuals to find the answers, or spin cardboard code-wheels, press plastic lenses to our TV's and squint until we could make out a pair of letters, or even worse - enter the correct sequence of colours from a tiny box on a tiny card before we could jump around our mansion collecting misplaced treasure.
