Horizons How are modules targeted?

Just shot a competent NPC. Think it was a Cobra.
His cargo spewed out. (Before he blew up)

I see where the term "Targeting Modules" is used.
I take it that I blew his hatch.
I didn't target it. Just a lucky shot.
When there is only one target (the ship) how do you target a module?

Sounds like a lucky shot. When you've selected a target, you need to go to the left panel and you will see something like sub-systems. I can't remember the name exactly, as I can't check right now, but you'll then see a list of the targets modules and you can scroll down and select the one you want to aim for.

You target modules in the sub-targets tab in the contacts panel.

However the more likely reason for the cargo coming out is that he dropped it intentionally in the hope that you would take the cargo and let him live.

You can also bind a key to directly target the next or previous sub-system of your current target. Can't remember the default key for that if any, however.

As soon as you target a different ship, or un-lock the current target, the targeted sub-system is reset, and you'll have to reselect the sub-module if you re-target the same ship.

It would be super useful to be able to set a 'default sub-system target' when you lock onto ships!

NPCs always drop any cargo when they have about 3% hull left.

How many attackers have I destroyed? Dozens. And never saw this before.
And now I know what the sub-systems tab is for. Thanks.
I don't do combat so I don't know much of this stuff that others take for granted.
Thanks all!:)
