How are prices determined for Low Temperature Diamonds ?

A week ago I sold some Low Temperature Diamonds for 1.7M. So I thought I would do some mining. Now the most I can find is 1.1M any where. I have 209 Low Temperature Diamonds and 25 Grandidierite to unload. Will it go back up or has it run it's course?

The rest are in the 10 bin hopper.

A variety of system states determine the prices, and I don't know what they are.

Check Inara or eddb for the best prices and distance.

Supply, as determined by RNG and player sales to stations versus quantity demanded, as determined by RNG which is to say . . . hand-wavium.

Database base value + System State Modifier + Whim of RNGesus + Demand / How Long You've Been Trying to Sell * .something

The point is will it go back up?

Maybe, but the indiret point by others is that it's a bit of a toss up (e.g. random).

Best to see it now as 1m is pretty good sell price for low temp diamonds. On void opals consistently command 1.7m at the right markets.

What's the alternative? holding them even for 1 day with some chance?

1.1m is a good price.

Maximum price is achieved when a system is in investment, civil liberty and under pirate attack i believe.

Having said that, never seen any prices that high for LTD and not seen them in Inara recorded that high, even at your lower number.

Void Opals on the other hand regularly hit high 1.6M

If you do find a place that sells much higher, record all you can about states and the market as would love to spot the conditions for even more profit!

Never seen them sell for 1.7... highest I've seen so far was 1.15M.

Wouldn't waste my time waiting for them to go up again anyway, though... just sell them for 1.15M and go mine Void Opals which appear to be selling for 1.7M almost everywhere instead.

As Bortas said.....LTD are Soooooooo Yesterday!

LTDs have a base price of around 300k, with slight variations due to local demand levels (unlike the other gem types, LTDs have a large enough base demand factor that the number recently sold to a station can somewhat affect their price)

Various BGS states affect this - a combination of Investment, Civil Liberty, Pirate Attack and Expansion will raise it to around 1.1 million, though that's quite a rare combination.

It's possible that there's a fifth BGS state which can be added to that list (or perhaps replacing one of those four) to get 1.7 million - but I don't know what it is. Can you remember *where* you sold them, and exactly when?

As to whether the prices will come back? Most BGS states are directly and only caused by player activity, so you could set something up. The exception is Pirate Attack, which appears at random for a few days and then disappears again - but you could find a system where that had just started, and then push the other states in before it ended. If you just wait around for it to happen, you're unlikely to see those prices just happen to reappear as a result of other player actions.

I certainly wouldn't hang on to them in the hope the price goes back up in the next day or two - that's extremely unlikely to happen.

The effects of BGS states on trade prices changed significantly with the 3.3 release and because the "high" economic states currently tend to be permanent (and the "low" ones non-existent) it's a bit early to re-analyse what the optimal combination for each trade good is ... and the effects of overlapping states makes it a bit tougher to isolate them, as well. It's on my list to do, though.

Mining is so easy now, you can make fortunes overnight. So what if the price goes down, you can recuperate any perceived loss by doing another mining run.

I generally just mine, and transfer the LTDs to my other accounts, and let them sell it at the station for whatever price it's at. LTDs last night were 510k. No great problem, I just mine some more, sell some more. The new account I started over the weekend is 100m odd in credit, and has travelled no further than 7.5k from station and has about 2 hrs of actual play time.
