How are stations found?

Hi guys,

This may sound like a silly question, but how are stations discovered, is it by using the discovery scanner or by getting close enough to discovered planets?

We were talking about this last night on the FGE teamspeak.
It would seem that once you have information about any object in a system (read 'the star') all of the stations should be present in your navigation information. Apparently stations have transmitters so they are registered straight away.

I would say that I have found one system where the second star was almost 300000 Ls away, and the outpost around the second star did not show up until I travelled to and scanned the second star, so it isn't absolutely 100% correct all the time.

Thanks for the heads up.

I was offered a mission 2 or 3 weeks ago and the station cannot be found. I know I have all planets as I am using the advanced discovery scanner, I'll have to check but I am pretty sure I visited each planet in that system. Maybe a bug then.
