the original elite was never exciting, action pumping, etc. you often died crashing into the letterbox... and the new elite is similar. its unforgiving. you will make costly mistakes, you will lose hard earned work.
most people bored, are the one who are complaining the loudest - saying FD promised me more than this. they have come from other space games, expecting elite will fill that void, or if they yell loud enough, FD will change a core dynamic just to suit them... these are the people who will leave, slag off elite, etc - they never will get the idea, or what its really about. its not warcraft in space; its not COD in space. elite never tried to fit into exsisting moulds and it spawned a generation of clones (that some of these complaining people have come from)
elite will do its own thing. it will have its own life. the people who will continue to play it, are the ones who are on the same page at DB. unfortunately theres so many who dont get it even now; saying i cannot believe they will release this in a week! - basically the game is done, and its not holding your hand. they will expand on it, and some things will always be tweaked.
i loved the original. i think the new one is fantastic, and it is truely a remastered version of the original - not some commercially jazzed up CoD/warcraft that looks pretty in a box-level world.

:p Well if it's anything like Euro Truck Simulator 2, I'll be hooked for at least a year. I still have my rig racing around making deliveries in that game. I'm currently parked at a rest stop just outside of France in Germany headed toward Italy. Dropping off a couple diggers. If Elite is anything like that I'll be in heaven!

So many posts about grinding etc to get to the next ship.

In the 80's, the original Elite captured me and it was a daily thing to play for a few hours alongside real life.
I would almost treat a real life day as 1 - 2 hours in Elite.

The problem with modern day people and games is that everything must be delivered now and I must have it otherwise I will complain.

I suspect that many players will leave ED after a few months because they just DON'T GET IT.

This game should grow with you, be part of your life when it can be and not hammered to death and COMPLETED in 1 month like other games.

I treat ED as a mortgage, an investment, it will grow with me, take time to master and eventually we will grow old together and retire in the sunshine.

So what are your thoughts ?

I haven't read any posts about ship grinding

I am glad you liked the original. So did I.

Please look up strawman argument. You've placed everybody who doesn't agree with them in a box who complains and then torn apart the reason you think they are all complaining instead of addressing anything actually being said by people.

I agree that elite will have a very thin player base and will not appeal to the vast majority of players in its current form. I don't know what IT is that they don't get but most likely that is enjoyment.

I agree MMO's and games with significant time sinks should be very carefully weighed before making a commitment. I wouldn't buy a house I didn't like.

People are just asking to change the house they don't want to live in. The answer of the people who built it is no. They'll move on to the next house.

Situation normal.

Been playing this on and off for 30 years so it's become part of my life so to speak. I can't see that ever changing as long as it becomes stable at some point and not having constant update fixes and hotfixes for failed patches. I'm hoping FD can pull it together before official launch next week... crossing fingers and toes as gamma 2 has been anything but playable for me.

What the hell you on about

I chose this one(looks up), as I will play the game at my leisure until Star Citizen and Limit Theory among others are playable. If I play this game beyond that will depend greatly on FD and if they make better decisions for the future of their game as I am not super on board with most of the ways they went since the whole no offline fiasco.
