I'm fairly happy with my results so far, i've got a nicely fit out viper and 3.3mil credits in assets and the empire rank of serf (lol)

hows everyone else going so far?

Not so good. I still can'take get my thrust/ throttle binding correct on my Thrustmaster t1600. I can't figure out what they all mean. Because of this I crashed my ship in a star port and lost it.

Hey, I have a thrustmaster t16000 and can tell you how I set it up if it's any help.

Decided against trying to get the throttle slider to do reverse.... there just isn't enough travel and no centre notch anyway so you don't know where you are. So then you have to set vertical/lateral and forward and back thrusters on keyboard, say WASD for forward/back, Left/Right and EC for up and down. When docking I just set the stick throttle to zero and just fly in on the keyboard thrusters, just using the stick for a little bit of pitch and yaw to make sure I'm pointing in the right direction if necessary. Putting your landing gear down in plenty of time is a good idea too... it slows you down and disables boost... which I've accidentally hit more than once whilst in a station... costly mistake!!

Also, forget the 'Landing overides', they are just in case you want different controls for landing than regular flying.

I gave up on having reverse and forward throttle on the same slider pretty quick, toggle works much better

Treating the E:D as a casual game seems to work nicely for me. Got 3 ships on a spot marked as my homebase.

Sometimes I feel like trading and take the Lakon 6.

Sometimes I feel like bounty hunting challenge and take the upgraded Freagle.

Sometimes I feel like roaming around and take the upgraded Cobra. Doing missions that seem fun. Exploring. Fighting stuff I stumble across on the missions. Only thing that didnt really work for me was mining. Too tedious with the scoop. Hell, sometimes I even hail other players ;)

Meanwhile wealth and rankings grow automagically while I'm enjoying the ride.

First I was disappointed and didn't want to play it because of my Beta-Experiences.

But now I'm enjoying it. Today I traded in my Hauler for a Cobra, got some upgrades and little over a million on my bank account.
Probably I will buy a Lakon 6 tomorrow and use that for hauling, and keep the cobra for the rest.

Having a blast even though I haven't 'achieved' much, I waste a lot of time in 'Ooooooh' and 'Aaaaah' enjoying flying around.
I just got offered to drop a mission for Fresh Meat (??)and now I have to go to talk to some dodgy guy in another system

Wish I had this when I didn't have wife and 2 kids...

I went Sidewinder, Hauler, Viper, Adder, Cobra, Lakon T6 and Asp. Currently using the Asp with 30ly jump range for trading and kept a maxed out A-class Viper just in case the worse happens. Hoping the nerfed commodity prices get corrected soon and new mid-range ships show up otherwise it maybe next winter before I see a large ship.

The cool thing is using Boost and Flight Assist Off to line up at a station entrance, FA on, then listen to the Asp engines "whine" while trying to head for the station. Sounds like the rotor wash on a helicopter when it makes a sharp turn.

Thanks, I may try this setup. There are not enough buttons on the 1600 to make thrusters work easily. I am still confused about reverse. Sometime when I launch I start off going backward even though I have Forward only set on slider.

Still getting adjusted to the game, but I'm having a lot of fun doing things at my own pace. I'm still learning a lot, and having a blast. The Immersion in this game is top notch, and that's why I don't mind learning things a little slow

I have been playing fairly casually got pretty poorly geared viper, kinda miss my eagle it had a nice sun roof for looking out of with the trackIR, viper does sound nice though.

Pretty good so far, enjoying it. I've got a hauler, long range interdicting wake scanning eagle and an extremely short ranged viper for hunting my home system. Allied with the local good guys, and they have a pending state of expansion critical, so hoping to see a new station pop into view :)

I'm the other way round - had a wife and three kids way back then and somehow still achieved Elite on the Spectrum. Now being semi-retired, the kids long since left the nest and with the wife sadly in a care home it ought to be easy. Yet I'm finding I need to relearn everything. All part of the fun. Lots of oooh and aaah moments though.

I hated the premium beta the very few times i played it and waited until relase to play again. After getting over my initial reaction of "oh dear this is still terrible" and playing a while i am now actually addicted to ED much to the utter utter dismay of my fiance (we are currently communicating in grunts).

So far i have messed around with the sidewinder, eagle , viper (horrid ship) and the cobra mk3.

I personally think the key to really enjoying ED is to realise this isn't EvEO or BSGO it is actually Elite Frontier with a pretty slick makeover and occasional idiot shooting at you. The control interface in ED is particualarily good.

My fears of multiplayer becoming a gankfest are proving to be wrong. i am sure at some point in the future when groupings/clan/wing play are incorporated into open play it may rear its ugly head but , for example, at that time if i was hauling expensive cargo and didnt want to get into trouble i would flip to solo mode. You know, open play may end up being simply a large PVP arena additionally populated by masochists. Actually sounds like good fun.

I miss Jumpgate. I think i have found a replacement.

Love

I played since the beginning of Beta and tbh I was worried about the release but this apart from anything else has been an interesting insight as to how modern pc games are developed. For the most part I am highly impressed by the release version, I have not had one crash (some long hyperspace exit times thats all) and only minor bugs which I am sure will disappear.

For me now the game makes sense and am very much enjoying it, but,, had to be one ;) Multiplayer,, I am only just over a 100ly from SOL and I have only seen two other players (apart from my friend) since release. Now it does make seeing another human an "event" which in itself is quite exciting but I am wondering is this more to do with players not being in the same instance as each other ?

If it is just because there is so much space,, then hey that is pretty cool as well :)

I'm exactly the same, any money I've made with courier missions or the odd bit of bounty hunting have gone into upgrades for my ship so my wallet is always empty (I'd still be in the sidewinder if it weren't for the free eagle) and it'll be ages before I make any 'achievements'.

I think that's what's so good about the game though, I'm just doing my own thing and taking my time about it. Right now, I'm a mild-mannered tea trader who has big dreams of one day owning a Hauler :D

I'm really enjoying it, it has enough of a look and feel of the '84 original to know that it is an Elite game but has so much more complexity as to make it a new game in its own right too (which you would expect after 30 years).

I haven't really achieved much other than a few simple courier missions, some small trading runs (still using the stock Sidewinder), stuck a better weapon on my Freagle and then promptly overloaded my power systems when I deployed it! Unfortunately my playing has been interrupted by a bad case of man-flu but I'm hoping to get back on later today.

My Kickstarter pledge rewards included an option for an old school start, so I've been happily puttering around Lave and nearby systems, in a Cobra Mk 3*, building on the 1000 credits I started with. Trading seems a bit flat, probably due to volume of traders (expected around Lave :) ), but I did find a go-to system for cheap minerals, which is very helpful for taking on lucrative bulletin board missions. It's a great area for ship upgrades though, so I've been working on that mainly before setting off on an exploration run towards Imperial space. Just need to update my frameshift drive and fit a detailed surface scanner and I'm all set!

I'm also pleasantly surprised to have found that I don't suck as much in combat as I thought I would, so pirate hunting has been a lot of fun. Although, as the saying goes, 'Good against remotes is one thing, good against the living is something else.' :)

* Not quite as much of a bonus as you might think, although it does save you the 330,000 credits for the basic ship. All the modules and weapons are very basic and also loaned, so you don't get any re-sale value from them.

Well I started when game launched, accumulated 300 k and have used sidey, hauler and adder. Got bored with trading and thought there must be better trade runs from where i am, currently 6-10k for inter system trading. Went off exploring in the adder, only to find out almost all other systems seem the same stuff, none more profitable, so after a day, decided to go back, tried in vein to get back to my home system, always saying can't plot route, tried more local systems to find a way around. I wish they would add a autopilot or semi-auto pilot for navigation of star systems, it would take the headache out of trying to find your way back and plot the right route. Deleted save and started again, weird thing is every time i try again I always start in the same damn system.

Currently have 50k in the sidey rigged for trading (8 cargo)
