As the game is about to launch in a few days, I'm just curious how I should plan my zoo map. I kind of want it to look like an official zoo map, and I was wondering how you guys are planning yours. Perhaps I might find the answer in this.

nah, I mean like creating them outside of game first. Basically drawing them, or making them look like official zoo maps.

The original zoo tycoon games had a map you could use to see the animal exhibits, what animals they had, and a lot of on/off options for the icons, it would be cool if we could have a similar item in-game, like one we can place in the zoo for the guests to see where they are right now. It could work like planet coaster's "advertisement" boards.
I agree. I really hope they add this to the game.
I'm not big on planning things in advance, except that if there are flamingos at launch, I'll put them in the front of my zoo.
flamingos should always be at the front of all zoos
I don´t plan my maps, I do have some ideas for themes of different zoos. I do not want to recreate reality in my game, but I am very curious how others will just do that.
I don't really plan ahead. I'll just start building whatever I feel like and what animals are available to buy etc. I believe its much easier that way than planning ahead, for franchise zoo that seems a bit hard, since you won't be able to get certain animals from the get go.
For Sandbox I guess you could plan ahead like that but I think if I were to do that I would never actually get it how I've drawn it up and would get disappointed and stop building or whatever. So I'll just let my creativity flow

Franchise mode would allow multiple designs.
1 zoo will be a one straight line to the back with reptile enclosures and branching out with zones based on continent.,
1 zoo will be like this, can't copy the image and it's in Dutch but scroll down to 'Plattegronden dierenpark Emmen' and something 1998/2005/2015.

This used to be our local zoo (was pretty awesome) till they moved and changed it to an adventure park with attractions, basically ruining it for almost everyone.
Going to recreate our old zoo in 1 franchise.

You did a pretty good job! I assume you took an existing zoo map and modified it, or did you make it from scratch? I'd like to make an official looking zoo map like this for my zoo project.
I’m using paper and pencil for my zoo right now, but I can’t for the life of me imagen the size of the enclosures! Do you guys have any tips?

I believe the minimum enclose size is per animal - with multiple animals (even two) you need an additional 10% or so per animal. So for a 1000m2 enclose for Animal x you need 1100m2 for its partner - 1200m2 for its first born when it reaches adult hood. These aren't exact but remember seeing a thread at the time on the subject and it was a rough rule of thumb
When drawing a Zoo map, I basically only do for reference, so I don't need to include proper enclosure sizes.
