Newcomer / Intro How can I disable the annoying launch mode pop-up on Steam?

When I launch ED from Steam I get a pop-up asking me if I want ordinary or VR mode. I don't have a VR rig. Is there a way for me to set a configuration flag that will tell Steam I always want the non-VR mode?

Create a desktop shortcut (from your Steam library screen) - that shortcut should load the ED Launcher (loads Steam minimised in the background). That is how I start my steam copy of the game, it avoids the "version choice" pop-up box.

If it's supposed to create a shortcut on my desktop UI, there are two issues:

1) I'm running i3 over Linux. It's a tiling window manager - desktop shortcuts don't exist in its universe.

2) I don't see how that could solve the problem unless you set some kind of interface-selection option in the shortcut properties, which you haven't told me needs doing.

What I think I need is a way to tell Stem I don't have a VR rig, and it should simply run the non-VR version rather than prompting me.

Hmm I dinna ken aboot yur Linux system - sorry.

Just creating the desktop shortcut icon, meant that using the shortcut went straight to the Elite Dangerous launcher (with Steam launched minimised in the background). I had to do no further actions - no adjusting properties, which show as:

I've filed an issue over at Valve, since this seems to be a Steam launcher problem.

Valve punted. Seems they're not interested enough to spend any developer time looking at this.
