How can I discover planet ring type in unexplored systems?

As title says.

When in unexplored system (even in the bubble) I scan planets with rings, only information I get, is that it's pristine reserves (in systems without population) and inner and outer radius data. But there is nothing about its composition - is it rocky, icy, metallic.

Is this some sort of bug or I just don't know something?

I've got this scanner. After scanning it shows only planet details.

Detailed surface scanner definitely works, I was mining outside the bubble for the day, had to stop by Maia to pick up a surface scanner. Advanced scanner alone won't reveal the ring type.

Yep This^^^ you have to have a 'Detailed Surface Scanner' .. The (whatever level) 'Discovery Scanner' only scans for system objects .. not details.

Ok, I've checked and apparently I've took the wrong tool :p I'm a noob :p

Thanks for clarifying! :)

it's best to have both scanners if you are traveling into uninhabited systems, if the system has a Nav beacon (reminds me of bacon ... Mmmm Bacon) drop from supercruise at the beacon and target the beacon itself (not the destination marker) and let the scan complete, that will give you all of the system info for free (but you can't sell it)
