How can you tell what systems in the bubble you can get “first scanned/first mapped” at?

I’ve “discovered” some planets in the bubble, when I probed them. I got my name listed twice, even though the planets were already discovered by Frontier and didn’t have an “undiscovered” tag. I mapped a 6.86G planet at an engineer’s star system, and I didn’t get “first-mapped”, nor did anyone else, and I’m sure lots of people tried.

How can you tell what systems in the bubble you can get “first discovered/first map” credit? I don’t want to waste too much time shooting probes at planets, if I’m not sure which ones will get me a “first mapped” tag.

You have to do the mapping and be first to hand in the data. The only way is to explore. There are no flags on unexplored things - as should be expected.

How can you know what you don't know?

Some things don’t allow anyone to get “first mapped”. Deciat allowed people get “first mapped” at bodies in that system. But I tried to get first mapped at a 6.86G landable planet in another engineer’s system (can’t remember the system, but NOT Sol), and when I turned in the data, I didn’t get “first mapped”, nor did anyone else, so that system was obviously restricted...so it seems arbitrary. Is there anyone to know which systems restrict people from getting first mapped, before taking the time probing planets?

Anything in the system map with either no names or one name on it hasn't yet been surface mapped and handed in. Most of the time if you scan those they will still be unclaimed by the time you hand them in yourself. Or maybe I'm missing something.

edit: i guess a bunch of bubble systems that couldn't originally be discover tagged could have only one name on them but not be surface taggable. Not sure how to differentiate those.
