how code convinced me I don't need weps on my explorer...

buzzed through the diso system a few times, to convince myself that I really didn't need weps on my explorer ship. 3 interdictions so far, boost boost boost.....boost.... boost..... and supercruise.
One got a shot off at me, didn't even scratch my shields.

So, weps gone. Jump range increased, and I'm off on another exploration trip
Or maybe up shields and hull, and do some trade runs in diso :)

I'm just on my way back now and I'm also thinking of ditching the weapons. It's somehow comforting to have even basic pulse lasers, but when I sit down and think about it I never use them... and if I did get attacked they would cause next to no damage so running would be the best option anyway.

Everyone already knew this :). Actually even if they could kill you, weapons are still pointless -- a proper combat setup that wouldn't run would be too heavy for exploration.

When you're carrying weeks worth of expensive exploration data, its a bad move to get into a fight anyway....too much to lose. Better to run.

Don't forget to exchange the chaff dispenser for a kleenex tissue dispenser to help with the inevitable tears when said pirates/psycho gankers are unable to catch you. Also helps for those 'accidents' when exploring and you get caught up in a binary sandwich........

It's a win-win really, carrying kleenex, that is.

Depends on ships to be honest.

Interdiction by Vulture - well its slow, I fancy my chancing of running in an Asp with some chaff, and heat sync (I am crap at running lol).
Python - would give it a go.
The Imperial Ship (cutter is it)? I would feel less confident without a shield cell, but confident with one.
FDL, well not so much - I think comms would be my best chance!

I know, everyone says don't pack weeps, and it's common knowledge you'll never need them, but I've never been player- interdicted before, so I wanted to see really how much of a threat they are. Assuming my first response is to ignore and run, the code pirates really are no threat whatsoever. And with my jump range , there zero chance of them being able to follow me...

anyway, it's one of those things I really needed to experience for myself to convince m

No pics or vids, but here is the post https://www.reddit.com/r/eliteexplorers/comments/36qais/warning_griefer_at_sag_a/

I like how this guy cries 'griefer' LOL, as if homicidal maniacs have boundaries. Sag A is such a tourist destination full of plump unshielded and unarmed explorers just waiting to be picked.

If I hadn't already survived 3 run ins with the code guys, this is the type of thing that would make me turn around and equip a few weps. But after being interdicted 3 times and being attacked and surviving each time (by running-- to be clear) I feel confident that with a5 shields and sustainable boost, I can avoid being destroyed. And with a 37ly range, the only thing that will be able to track me (and keep jumping wiht me) is either a stripped conda or maybe a stripped asp. unless there be thairgods out there...

Some people just want to be infamous. I mean if i really wanted everyone to know my name (good or bad) All i have to do apparently is start killing random people in random place. Then sit back and watch them spread my name all over social media. Guess it never occurs to these players that maybe the "griefer" really just wanted to be noticed. And they're playing right into his hands. :p

Because off all the data you can steal.

Because some people have personal issues, and can only feel better through the power trip they get from destroying an unarmed vessel.
Call it what you will -- what you do in game speaks volumes as to the type of person you are in real life. Someone that does something like this is likely a spineless coward in RL with no self esteem.

True that.

I think it'd be fun to turn Sag-A into the new Camp Crystal Lake. :D Dont need a massive jump range, Just need to catch you while boosting.

I'll keep my weapons thanks, at least until I go out into the black again. I'm running rares and exploring civilization, so shooting down NPC pirates/psycos breaks up the monotony a bit.

like I said.. travling 20k+ lys to a tourist spot in a fighter just to hit unarmed targets, for zero financial gain, is indicative of several deep psychological problems. How this could possibly be "fun" for anyone is beyond me.
.
And before the flamers start their throwers, I'm not complaining, anymore than I complain about the random attacks that happen to people everyday in real life. You have to deal with idiots and people of low character and self esteem all the time, doubly so in a game where there's zero social penalties for acting like that.

Not at sag A, but if I saw a fellow explorer in an area that I was undiscovered, I'd kill him. It would be in my best interest to. Dead exploerer means money for me when I turn in my data :D

that's almost as bad. First explorer of a system.. even if it were FULL of ELWs, would get you only a few hundred k--and that is a virtual impossibility. Even for a "prize" system with an ELW and a few water worlds, even with the first discovered bonus, you're looking at a few tens of thousands. it's just not worth it -- and 1000ly past inhabited space, you hardly ever find discovered systems -- there's more than enough for everyone.

And here I thought the explorer community was all "lets be friends and help each other out". :)
