How come you can't route to places over 100LY?

Apparently our experiances differ. For me, plot route is always disabled, until the routine that builds the routes in the background has reached the system in question (as in: until theres a path of blue lines connecting my current location to the selected one).

Hmm, quite different then indeed - for me the map and route planning is as quick as snapping my fingers. Like, two-step route from about 180 LY afar to Achenar. Select midway star, click button - route clear, proceed to jumping - and when there, tag Achenar and plot's ready in the instant.

You can plot longer routes, you just need to get your butt into an area of space with less stars around. :p

I was out on the middle of nowhere 2500ly from Sol and I could plot routes up to 150ly at a time. Usually only 1 or 2 stars would display in my nav panel though, so that's a lot less paths for the galaxy map to draw. :)

Mine keeps resetting to economical route, so when I switch it to fastest route it takes a while to build the tree....that's where the delay comes from.

Because they haven't done what I think is appropriate, Stop the server from calculating paths for ALL directions and just calculate a path when I select a far off star, This makes path finding for long locations possible and MUCH faster than it already is.

Me:
Open Galaxy map.
Type system name, lets use.. Sol in this case.
Map moves to Sol.
There are zero lines showing between the systems.
Grab system map and swing it around to see my current destination. Move the map around between the two points and wait.
Lines being popping in and creeping towards Sol.
Lines come up to Sol, 107LYs
Plot course.
Exit Galaxy map.
Undock.
Jump. (rinse, repeat).

Pretty much lets me go as far as I want, though admittedly, I have not plotted further than 107LYs.
I just simply do not travel that much / that far.

This. I can usually get around 125 LY in regular space. If I get into star cluster though it's way easier and faster to do it manually. Also, while waiting for my web to populate I can usually select a system 10-15 LY beyond where ever my web is currently at.
