How concerned should I be about losing exploration data because of the Engineers update?

I'm currently arriving at Sagittarius A from an extended sightseeing trip over the months and scan every thing of importance in each system (dozens upon dozens of earth-likes, ammonia worlds, neutron stars, black holes and water worlds discovered). I've heard that a lot of commanders lost data during the 1.4 update. Now that the Engineers release date has been announced, I don't think I'll be able to make it back even if I make a straight line back to Quince without the scanning because I'm currently in a middle of a few projects. I'm not even going to worry about the updated AI and interdictions anymore, but I am fairly concerned about the update somehow messing with the data I've collected as that is far beyond my control.

IIRC there wasn't much issue with 1.5/2.0, so I wouldn't be too worried about it. If you can't make it back, then there's nothing you can do anyway.

It might affect how often I scan on the way back knowing I might have a chance to lose discover tags. But it's good to know they've gotten more careful in subsequent updates.

i do know that many (including me) had problems for some days after 1.5. hit, i don't know of anyone whose problem couldn't be solved by support.

so, don't worry!

In the case of exploration data, I've heard they refund the monetary value as well as rank progression but your tags are not able to be processed.

I am not worried at all...and even if I was there is not much I can do about it. I am 63kly from sol and no chance of getting back before engineers hits.

It's not the problems that occur when a major update is released - these things happen & we can't do anything about them.

What annoys me is FDevs's lack of information, to the players, & slowness to react to resolve the issues. In particular the 1.4 update/migration of the Exploration Server last year.
It was pretty obvious that something wasn't right & a few players - including myself - were advising fellow explorers to stay in the system & stop scanning, That was on day 1.
Yet it was day 4 before FD announced that players should stop exploration activities until the issue had been fixed. I didn't move for 5 days!

The 'we know we have issues & we're investigating them' announcement wears a bit thin after a while.

Fortunately I'm currently in the bubble & have NO plans to go on any trips now - until the dust has settled from 2.1.

My advice to players out in the black is to be aware of what's happening on update day once you've uploaded 2.1.
Read the forums, read what players are 'whining' about - 'cos players do!
Be prepared to hold your position if you're not happy & things aren't right.
Once you're happy then continue.

At the end of the day, it's not real life, it's a game....FD employee's are human & errors will occur - they could keep us better informed but they are human!

Thursday 26th May

If it follows the pattern - the servers will be down around 10am for a 4 hour downtime.

Players will start commenting on the forums that 'its 2.01pm & I still can't update!'

At 1800hrs players will finally be able to update

May 26th for Engineers.

I wouldn't worry. Should the worst happen, create a ticket and FD will compensate you appropriately after checking their servers.

Or you could get a response like I did....

"....your data isn't lost, we just can't find it at this time. Unfortunately we cannot compensate you for lost data..."

....that'll teach me for keep slagging off FD on the forums!!
