Powerplay How did I lose merits?

I've been in powerplay for about 8 weeks. I try to maintain rating 4, so I understand the concept of merits cut in half each week. Got my packhounds, working on prismatics now. Last week I turned in enough points to push my merits over 3000, as usual. However after this last tick, my merit count was 1388 instead of the expected 1500 plus change. Did I do something to lose merits? Where do I check to confirm that?

Merit decay is slightly more complicated than being halved each week. Any merits that are more than four weeks old disappear completely, for example. This post explains it in more detail.

That explains it, thank you. Henceforth... I need to be aware of what points are about to roll off and make sure I account for those before the next culling. gasp. Those points that I didnt account for came from the defection. Instead of being safe with 3000 points each week, I probably need 4000. [grumble grumble]

The merit system ain't the best reward mechanism currently. Hopefully at some point in the future it can be reformed to more of a personal merit bank that doesn't decay but you expend on the bonuses you want.
