Powerplay How did you chose your factions?

Now that powerplay will become open only, and I will have finished my module shopping powerplay too,
I'd like to chose a faction for a good reason and not for module shopping.

So tell me, why did you all chose the faction you're pledged to?

I only work for the ones that look tidy in their HoloMe. - please don't ask me to work for you.

PS I work for Zamina (mainly because it ryhmes with semolina)

In my powerplay history I first joined Hudson because in the lore the Federation are the ones who appeared as upright defenders of human values, like protecting native lifeforms and ensuring laws are getting enforced in all human-civilized space. Also the Federation has still some kind of democratic appeal.

If you look on Imperial history, it grounds on settling on Achenar, accompanied by the extinction of Achenars indigen lifeforms This does not sound to appealing to me. Then the Empire installed a royal lineage and it's society is built upon aristocratic snobbery.

But soon I found that the once upright Federation law has been corrupted by wealthy enterprises and corrupt politics, I thought about the independents. Mahon did look rather charming at first glance, but then, when it comes to his powerplay politics, he is to inactive for my taste. He is neutral, that's fine - but since I want to be part of forces of change in the status-quo of the galaxy, he was not my choice.

Long story short: I chose Archon Delaine as rebel outsider. Stealing from the rich and using the money to fund my perosnal AX ships and my personal revenge on the Empire.

But get me right. Most time I don't engage in powerplay anymore. I don't even get my ship out of the hangar anymore lately. If I do it, only to take some fancy passangers on a tour any now and then. But times might be a changing. And if times might get more interesting again, I might take up my pledge for Archon again.

Here we are.

I only fight for the Federation.

Semi-spurious democracy, cynical capitalism and massive military force.

The worst combo for human governance, except for all the other combos ever tried.

yeah, that's exactly why i think we will never transcend our solar system and why elite is not scifi, but scifa (science fantasy). [haha]

Prismatic shields. and I have 1 week to go to unlock them. and after seeing how absolutely pointless PP actually is. I'll be waiting until it goes open and the modules get moved to tech brokers for the rest.

Something like this for me as well and also because of Sol. I figured if I am gonna grind fed rank I might as well join them. So I read and chose Winters in the end.

We are on good terms with Delaine.

Oh, Arkadi... 7 of the 8 founding members of the Federation exterminated native life forms during settlement and terraforming. Eight if you count Earth's ongoing extermination level events... The Empire of Achenar did it once on Capitol and we never hear the end of it. Imperial history records it as an accident, despite the best efforts to conserve the life-form in habitats.

As for human values? The way I see it, Federal Corporate Democracy is another version of crony capitalism dressed up as representative.

Imperial Patronage might be just as nepotism driven and devoid of merit assessments, but at least it's honest about the situation. And Imperial culture backs up this honesty with a millennium of duty, honour, and tradition that forces an obligation on the haves to support, protect, and defend the have nots as well as they are able.

As for how I made my choice of faction?

Back in April of 3301, I helped then Senator, the Princess Arissa Lavigny, in her efforts to find those who poisoned Emperor Hengist Duval and bring them to justice. For those efforts, the Senator of Facece hooked me up with a discounted Imperial Clipper. I've been devoted to Emperor Arissa Lavigny-Duval ever since.

Agreed.

As for me, I do most of my work for the Federation. That's not to say I think they're the good guys. So far, I don't think a good faction exists - everyone who gets ahead in politics is either in the pockets of corporations or trying to set up their own little dictatorships. I work for the Federation because that's the only way I could get a Sol permit, and I want to visit Sol. Apart from that, my only philosophy is "Find a crew, find a job, keep flying" and "Someone ever tries to kill you, you try to kill 'em right back!".

I'll see you in the Black.

I think I remember meeting you in those early days, when you pulled me from SC on your search for those assassins. In the end it's not the political pledge that matters, but the heart and soul of each individual.

Still, if those in power are corrupt, and they mostly are, there needs to be some counterweight that holds those puppeteers in some bounds.

My choice was mainly influenced by political and social behaviours of the leaders.
I pledged to Felicia Winters because she is less "aggressive" than her counterpart, Zachary Hudson. His idea of democracy and freedom though war are simply absurd.
