General / Off-Topic How do I Access Parental Option "Age Filtering for Online Content" from UK console

Hi Guys,

I am based in the UK and have a UK registered Playstation ID as does my son who's account is a Family sub account, managed by my own. I want to be able to modify the age restriction settings for my son so he can play Age restricted games, I have de-restricted all the settings available to me but there is one stumbling block, although he can start the game in question he can't play online and gets a pop up message.

"Playstation network features unavailable due to age restrictions"

According to https://manuals.playstation.net/document/en/ps4/basic/kidsnetwork.html there is an additional option available to users in other countries

"Age Filtering for Online Content" - This option is not available to me from Settings / Parental Controls / Family Management /

I've been searching for a solution for some time and have yet to find anything.

I was wondering, if I were to get a PSN account created with US as the territory if this would give me access to the setting. Would someone from the US be willing to experiment with me ?

It wasn't clear to me if you are trying to restrict him or allow him.

I had a similar problem with my son. He was 11 and wanted to play Overwatch which is 12. No matter what you set it won't allow an account to play a game that is rated older than their date of birth. Sometimes this just manifests as the online bit not being allowed.

So you may need to create a non family account for him. I basically had to create accounts with an age of 18 for all my kids and trust them to be good...

Not allowing the parent to override age restrictions basically made the parental controls useless for me.

I'm trying to allow him access to content above the stated age of his account.

In my research I've seen posts of similar type on the Sony support forum being resolved by the use of the "Age Filtering for Online Content" switch which I as the Parent cannot access due to regional restrictions.

So it sounds similar to my problem, I'm in the UK as well. Post back if you find a better solution.

I also did lots of research and couldn't find a better way than I stated.

From talking to my son it seems all his friends, whose parents don't play games, just use the PSN master account to play.

OK....

Created a US parental account and created a child sub account. Logged in on my UK box, set use this PS4 as my main, set the Parental restrictions including the previously unavailable Network Age Filtering Switch to Off and the child account [14] d.o.b. 2004 is able to access C.o.D. III [18] including online features.

I have full parental rights !!!

The only issue is going to be purchasing DLC as we'll need to use the US store.

Edit: You can't add a family member from another country, so you can't have a US Gaurdian in a UK Family to get at the Network Age Filtering Switch.

Got the following response from Sony Support.......

"I am sorry but as the regions are different we wouldn't be able to comment on why US account have it and EU accounts don't.

I'm afraid that the content isn't just controller by us, but is also controlled by the game publishers. For example, Fifa is a PEGI rating 7, but under EA terms of service you need to be 16 in order to play online. As such I am sorry but there isn't anything that we would be able to offer regarding this.

Thanks
