How do I activate Direct mode then?

I have searched for hours but I can't get ED to find the Oculus when in Direct mode... I though that this was supported now?

I have literately just got this so a total noob, but I have the demo working and have done the calibration

Using DSK 0.4.3

Thanks in advance.

Actually direct mode does work, but it works badly. You get a much better experience with Extended mode, so if it's the experience you're after - go extended.

When I try and use the Extended mode I get what I can only describe as the screen cut down the middle and rotated 180 degrees. EG the boxes aroudn the menu options show with the two ends in the middle and open ends pointing right an left.

I have rotated the display in the Win CP so that it's horizontal

Care to share HOW ?

I just set the config tool to direct in the latest oculus runtime utility (1.5 - shipped with SDK 0.4.3) and the game loads up in direct mode (took a little longer than usual for me) and the game recognizes the rift as well as displaying a mirrored image on the main screen.

Worked out of the box for me, no further changes required. The downside was that I got stable 2-4 FPS in stations in direct mode.

Yes, what you had was what I had with extended, you have to tinker with the orientation of the Rift. Once you have it set so it looks the right way up in windows desktop (yes it's a nasty image but you should be able to see the correct orientation at least).
  • Log into ED and hit play. You may see a peculiar double lens effect version of ED on your normal monitor, the head tracking should work though so you'll need to point your rift at the camera as if you were wearing it, then you should be able to navigate to the graphics options menu.
  • From there select OR with headphones for the display mode and you'll probably have to select Secondary monitor (unless your rig is more than single monitor normally - in which case I'm likely wrong - I only have a single monitor + rift setup).
  • Once that's done, the monitor screen should go to desk top view, you'll need to slip on your rift quickly, hit F12 to centre the rift view and accept the changed graphic conditions. From thereon you should be able to operate everything while wearing the Rift. Remember that the mouse uses the extended screen, so ensure the mouse pointer is in the Rift screen before trying to use it - or you'll be forced to desktop view. If that happens you can Alt-TAB back to Rift view.

I'd recommend supersampling to 2560 x 1440, there are many guides on how you'd do this for the Rift, it's not complicated and takes a couple of minutes to achieve. It'll hammer your GPU though, so I hope yours is pretty good.

Hope this helps.

Sorry to be a newb, but what is the difference between direct mode and extended mode and does it matter?

Also, will ED support direct mode later on then?
