How do I activate the exterior free float camera?

I've see a lot of pictures and even some videos where users have take pics from outside their ship/SRV. How do you get these? I read on one post that you need to use CTRL + ALT + SPACE but this didn't work. Am I doing something wrong?

It's bindable in the control options.

I've got mine set to the INSERT key.

Then you just use your regular movement controls. Pitch, Roll and Yaw. The thrusters will move the view Up, Down, Left and Right and the throttle will move you in and out (you may have to use your reverse control if you're not using full range throttle).

Not really relevant since answered but my mapping is F12 because it's easy to find and hard to hit by accident.
I have F10, and alt+F10 for screenshots and high res screenshots (solo mode only) and alt+F11 for my shadowplay video capture.

Works well to keep all of them together out the way.
