Newcomer / Intro How do I avoid Fines?

I am getting sick of all the fines I keep getting when leaving the station: When I use the docking computer to dock, it sometimes wait for other ships and I never get a fine, but when leaving the station, you don't have that option, so it is just gambling when is the right moment to leave and in lots of cases it either fines me for leaving reckless or whatever fine and this is a real nuisance, because it forces me to return to this station within a week to avoid being shot to smithereens by having a bounty on my head (so 400 credits become 5 million credits fine) and also I do not see how I can prevent this?? What am i missing or is this just the way the game is?

Put 4 pips to systems an 2 to weapons. No pips on engines makes it much easier to control the speed of your ship at the station.

-not ramming other ships
-if above not possible, do it when below 100m/s
-practice in docking, best for it is the tutorial
-not landing at wrong pad
-not blocking entrance or other pads
-don't use weapons in the weapon-free zone (3km and 10km depending on station / security)

;)

I use a 50% throttle keybind - by varying the pips to engines the 50% throttle can keep your speed below 100. You still get snarky comments from traffic control when NPCs bump into you but you don't get fines.

Don't dump cargo within the no-fire-zone.

And don't carry illegal goodies when getting scanned xD

Learn how to read the scope???? Maybe that's what i am missing... what do you mean?

It's a bit hard to understand what you're being fined for, but most often fines during departure are associated with hitting other ships, which is pretty hard to do if you watch your center scope and understand where the other ships are and what it looks like at the entrance.

If you do any smuggling and have to be sure you exit and enter without being scanned, you have to know how to do this.

If you can't look at the round scope in the center of the cockpit and understand where the other ships are, you need to figure that out ASAP.

There's no need to hit anything while exiting a station. Waiting until the path ahead is clear and exiting at 95 - 99 M/S works fine for me, and if I know things are clear and I need to avoid being scanned, I just hit boost as I enter the letterbox on exit.

I honestly can't remember the last time I was fined leaving a station.

I think he means the scanner (radar)
It's easy to see the ships directly in front of you on the scanner.

Basically when you see a ship on your level (it doesn't have the line below or above it), it's probably going to go through the letter box or is just leaving.
With most of the ships you don't have to be that careful. You just keep yourself on the green side of the entrance and you're fine. Only T9 and Beluga need to go through the middle, so they have to be careful not to meet anything at the door.

The stations sometimes throw you a curveball by having 3 or 4 ships coming in to dock, just as you are preparing to leave. It is pure luck but it does happen a lot. Just be sure to let them all come through the slot whilst you wait somewhere out of the way in the station. You have plenty of time to leave, just don't loiter near another pad or get stuck in the letterbox and you should be fine. Good luck CMDR!

Yes - scanner display

Sorry, scope is a throwback to my days standing watch in CIC on a guided missile cruiser.

The other thing OP might consider is sticking to the smaller ships until he gets some of the basics mastered. When I fly the small pad ships I usually just use the narrowed section of the slot to the left or right and exit/enter perpendicular to the plane of the mail slot. It's always clear - almost impossible to hit anything, even a Beluga.
