So I'm not interested the the Thargoid story FDev want to push so I just want to continue my BGS story versus normal NPC's - is there any "safe zone" or will Thargoids eventually be all over the bubble and are unavoidable?

What do you mean how to avoid Thargoids? Did you saw any of them in super cruise or when they attacking stations? No, because Thargoids are just sitting in signal sources, you have to search them...

Firstly, don't steal their stuff, and you'll be fine.
Secondly, don't visit any non human USSs, and you'll be fine.
Thirdly, if it turns out you're not fine, and you get hyperdicted, just keep your distance and jump out.

Thargoids are pretty much just a side show right now. A tourist destination. You can fly around the whole Maia area and not see one alien if you don't want to. No real danger at all. A little disappointing actually. Add some risk on the way to see Palin. Have them roam freely in the hostel systems.

So long as you do not carry any "Thargoid" items in any of your inventories (including materials), don't get too close if you happen on them and don't shoot at them you should have no problem. I have encountered the flower-ships many times. They scan me, I scan them and we all go back to ignoring each other. o7
