How do i center a Scenery Piece on top of another easily?

Hi, i stumbled about this trick, and i think not a lot a People know about it.

I'll use a Fountain as example: you want to place a Fountain and want to add a Plinth in the Middle, but adjusting it by hand is a pain? Then just click on the Fountain, press "X" but don't touch any of the Arrows. Then just click in the Scenery Tab on the Item you wish to have in the Middle. You might have to adjust the hight, but that's it. It will be perfectly centered. This works with every Item that can be moved by the Advanced Moving Tool. :)

Don't you mean"

- place fountain
- press ctrl+X
- then select different piece
- it is centered and still movable on the axes.

I knew this one but many others might not.

Very useful information. [up]

if you just select the fountain element and press x, then select the plinth for the center, you replace the original fountain object.

that's why Luuk suggested to first make a copy of the fountain you like to modify this way.

anyhow, ungridded scenery objects inside a building are great helpers if you like to place different objects which should inherit alignment properties (center of, same angle as, same orientation as, same high as).

No, if it is an already placed item you don't replace it so you can only press X and it will work the same, it only doesn't make a copy but rather spawns the new selected item.

Yeah, i was saying, place an item. Then click it. Then press x, select the new item that you wish in the center of that item, and it will spawn in the center of the placed item :D

i stand corrected. sorry guys. i was sure that you need to make a copy first - it was my standard action in such cases. :)

however, it would be cool if replacement would be possible this way - especially if you select multiple objects - just select, press x, select different object from menu and all selected pieces get replaced by the different object.

to me this seems to be an easy implementation to the game and should work as long as you don't try to replace ungriddeded objects with gridded ones. qol stuff.

Agreed, makes more sense too for it to work that way. When you select a placed item, then in the menu select another it should replace it. [up]
