Fiction How do I do this...are there commandments or something?

Ok...
I want to write a novel or novella based on Elite Dangerous, but I'm unsure what the requirements are. I've tried looking for some guidelines on the forums, but I might have missed them as there are a lot of posts...I also suck at tracking things down like that.

Is there a set of guidelines that writers (or fan-fiction writers) should be adhering to? Like commandments...' Thou shalt not add Arissa Lavigne-Duval to any stories ' Something like that? Complete no no's.

Are there certain things that need to be in the stories as well as things that need not be in the stories?
Case in point..
George Lucas didn't want anyone to write extensively about Luke Skywalker, Darth Vader, etc. Only a few writers had permission to do that. Other writers could only have the main characters mentioned in the books in passing, or perhaps in literal passing as the main character actually passes Luke in a corridor and stares at him. Others could only use the Millennium Falcon and not Han Solo or Chewbacca (Seriously...go figure).

Obviously I need to get permission... Please?? Pretty please with a cherry on top?
But I'm pretty sure there are guidelines that should be adhered to...there usually are.

If you want to write fan-fiction and don't have any commercial intentions, then consult this guidance from Frontier and write on, Commander.

I published a little of my own advice too.

If you're wanting to do something official, you need to contact Michael Brookes directly ( enquiriesx@frontier.co.uk ) and request a licence application form. What you write will need to be approved by the FDev internal team. Do plan for an extended gestation period.

Hope that helps. :)

Cheers,

Drew.
