how do i expand my cargo racks?

help after buying an adder then this only gives me 6t but i read somewhere that this can be extended to 20+t . As i have a refinery to mine then i would like to know how i go about increasing this?
I have gone to an 'outfitters' and have 100k in credits BUT when i click on 'Cargo racks' ( i have 2, 1 is 4t and 1 is 2t)

i read somewhere that you need to seel shields etc. to make room?

Any help would be greatly appreciated as the manual is very vagiue about this and i dont want to seel items to find that it then doesnt make any difference to my cargo hold size?

Your ship has generic racks which can mostly hold any module. Youll have size 2 modules, ize 3, size 4 etc. By default you'll find you have a size 1 or 2 slot filled with a basic discovery scanner, you could swap this for storage. Youll find you have a size 2-3 rack with shields, you can sell this for cargo and run without shields if youre careful. Or if you still want shields, drop them down a size and use the larger rack for a cargo box.

ie. just because the outfitting currently lists an item, it doesnt mean thats the only item it can hold.

I wish this was explained somewhere visually so us dumb ass's (me, mostly) can understand it better. Is there some link that shows the ships and the different size bays and equipment?

Make sure to upgrade your cargo packs to the proper class. For example, some ships by default come with a size 2 cargo pack in a size 3 slot. You need to upgrade those; size 3 cargo packs have double the capacity than size 2 ones.
