Newcomer / Intro How do I find search for an outpost??

So I'm trying to find one of those outposts in the videos where they drive around scanning the data things and eventually get cracked firmware for engineering.

I don't know how to tell that website EDDB or whatever it is that I'm looking for low-security planet-based outposts.

Does anyone have experience using any kind of search so I can find some?



I don't want to have to go an land on every damn planet in the universe just to get there and see that it's not the right outpost! thanks a LOT!


I know some people do it where they find some missions to search something on the surface or something, but then i'll have to fly around even more looking for the missions.

If anyone looks at this hoping to see if i found the answer they are looking for... check out this thread. Apparently these places can have cracked industrial firmware

If it's a mission based outpost, then once you have established what planet it is on (by scanning the nav beacon or honking the system), it will appear as a target when you get close enough to the planet in SC and you can simply fly down to it.

Random outpost will be... random. You will find some in POI perhaps.

If you are looking for specific ones, such as Dav's Hope, which spawn a bunch of engineer materials, search for that on the forums, and the appropriate system / planet should be given at some point.

Thank you. I just came from Dav's Hope actually! Now im looking for the bases where you have to scan a certain amount of data things in a certain amount of time to get cracked firmware

You don't have to land. It tells you in the contacts tabs the security level in brackets and the size of the installation + to +++. if you're looking for a specific type of installation (of which there are a variety) then you will have to land or steal someone else's list.

Quick question: I went to one of the places. I found all 5 data things and scanned them, but the timer never went off. What's this thing's problem? That alarm is driving me nuts too. I'm driving around for half an hour, im looking at the map and it barely helps because the second im facing a different way, i get completely lost (something wrong with my sense of direction my whole life)

This is the most unpleasant experience I've had in this game. What else am i supposed to do to finish it???????????????????? I scanned all five. (one of them turned the timer off in the middle and i had to start over, so that was weird)

Cool so I finally scanned all 5 (one was hidden on the map i was looking at) I didn't get anything. It just said i was done...

Then i got back in my ship and during the loading screen I hear this thing saying how I'm under attack and the game FINALLY finished loading my ship view and I blow up as im taking off.

awesome game.

1. When you complete the run-around and finish scanning the last one you get a noise and message, then in your comms panel you will see that you have received a (or some) messages to be read - that / those tell you what exactly your hacking of the system has allowed you to steal revealed.

2. You forgot to "dismiss ship" didn't you? - I always dismiss ship when I am in the SRV, that keeps it safe.

...that's exactly what i did. Never dismissed. I parked a long ways away though. I tried to take off and panicked because my landing gear was down when I tried to run. As you can see in my comment, i blamed the game immediately lol


I dont remember getting a message about anything :(


Im going to give it another go at the next station. Thanks for all your help and advice!

I successfully scanned another base.

It was from one of the lists of places you can get materials like Cracked Industrial Firmware
There was no message or anything. Is it normal to sometimes not get anything at all? the clock just stopped and it said some data thing was complete, but there was no message in the corner of the screen or any kind of prize. Whats the deal?

yup. looked up there both times i finished scanning bases. Didn't get anything. My data isn't full either.

Do i have to have a mission up or something?? I'm just scanning them without an actual mission telling me to

That video show's EXACTLY what i've been doing but when i'm done there's no incoming message. The screen just says they've all been scanned and the timer stops. I don't get anything for it. This has happened two times in a row. All i want is a Cracked Industrail Firmware but I have a better chance of flying back in time and winning the powerball last week. This is getting infuriating for me watching everyone else do the exact same thing and get prizes and I dont even get a message!

I think you need to raise a support ticket (NOT A BUG REPORT) amd get them to check if you have an issue.

Apart from that you can always check your installation by selecting a check from the launcher options menu - I think it is called validate game files.

Thanks for the info! I'll raise a ticket. I can't do files because I play on PS4 though :(
