Just starting the Alpha Phase 3, and for the first time ever my controller does not work, it was fine yesterday. But what's strange about it, is that it will only work when the the launcher is at the forefront, and the game itself is in the options menu. Once I close the options menu, even with the launcher at the forefront, the controller stops. Has anyone ever run into this problem?
How do I fix this?

It might be of use to post the fix on here in case someone has the same problem in the future.
right click on Elite Dangerous in Steam to get into the properties - controller setting - use default settings - and turn on the steam overlay, it won't work without it.
