How Do I Get a Fresh Coat of Paint?

Just got back to the Bubble from Colonia and my paint job looks horrible. When I go to Outfitting to get a fresh paint job, it comes on pre-scratched.

How do I get a fresh paint job?

Anyone know?

Station Services, Advanced Maintenance has a special option to repair the paint job.

Oh, and your ship's integrity probably is also shot, prepare for a substantial repair fee :p

Yeah this. Paintwork appearance got decoupled from other repair features; used to be part and parcel of ship repair for a long time, and you couldn't rock a peeled-paint finish even if you wanted.

It looks great with some paints on some ships. Others, it really doesn't work though. I got distracted whilst afk yesterday and left my ship in SC for about an hour - its an Orca with the Black Friday paintjob. Landed at the Inra base today and was appalled by the state of it, had to head back to a station ASAP for a respray. The Asp (for example) usually look great with a distressed paintjob though.

i'm jealous. all my ships look brand new, even those with 0% paint.

I looooove this look on the Cobra.

ok, why do yours have ratty paint and mine always look new?

i read ages ago that you needed to 'reset' your paint, i.e. fix it to 100% first before it would begin to degrade (assuming your ship had worn paint at the time FD fixed the paint system) but i have bought about 20 new ships since then - all with brand new paint, since worn quite badly on some of them, yet they all look pristine still

what's wrong with my paint?

What does ship integrity actually do? Is it a resistance amount for receiving damage?

Damn I wish my ships were as degraded as the above, mine always look brand new, and I never repair the paint job.

Do you ever fly your ships? :D

But really, this should just work. It always has for me. If you look in advanced maintenance on one of your pristine ships, what percentage is the paint currently at?

Ship kits?

My Vulture with ship kit always looks factory new.

Could be, I don't run any kits so IDK. Those shots are of a 0% finish. IDT I reset anything, I just flew them in SC and avoided any repair.

IIRC all my ships have had scuffulation to some degree once it was sorted out; the Asp looks decent when it doesn't look decent, same for the Vulture. I usually don't let the iClip get ratty but Gutamayas look really horrid with a sandblast finish imo.

There was a time when the devs mentioned that the look of your paint might effect missions you'd get, just as people would more likely hire the guy with the new van over the battered old one.
Sadly its not made it in, not even as part of passengers.

But yes as others have mention paint doesn't get fixed by repair all, go into advanced services and you actually have to use the arrows to move the paint back to 100% or whatever you want it fixed too or nothing will happen.
