Newcomer / Intro How do I get past the "checklist"

I am new and can't play the game because I can't get past the launch "checklist". Button pushes check off but all the movement ones just make the box blink without checking it. Is there a way to bypass the "checklist"? ESC doesn't work.

Am I really going to be unable to play the game over this?

I believe under the functions panel (the right hand panel in your ship) has an option to disable the checklist. I find that annoying too. But I believe its worth to undergo that during the tutorial sessions.

I had the problem with the movement, too... At first, I had not calibrated my stick properly, so more than one axis would light up, alternatingly. Usually, if you hold it for ten seconds or more, it will check off. But it is important that the pre-flight checklist goes relatively smoothly, so I would try to recalibrate if you can - otherwise you may have troubles flying.
Fortunately, you only have to do it once. It is a good idea to review the position of all the controls, even if a bit tedious.

I always do the checklist after a new patch just to make sure my key bindings are still intact. As an aside, I would love FD to put in a fix for this instead of having to copy and paste code.

The (not completely obvious) answer for everyone who is having the same problem is that you get rid of the checklist by waggling each axis of your controls through its full range. Once that is done, the relevant box will check. Then you have to press and hold any key bindings until they check. When everything is checked, the list vanishes and you are hot to trot.

I was annoyed with the checklist when I first encountered it, too... there's no reason after doing the combat tutorials that you'd think to hold keys you usually just tap or hold briefly.

Also, another problem with the checklist is that it seems to remember your throttle settings (or it did for me). I got launched straight forward at decent throttle when trying to undock for the first time (playing keyboard and mouse).

It actually helps quite a bit to learn and remember the basic controls of the ship. I would check the controls, set them to your personal taste and make sure they work through the pre-flight checklist ;)

And welcome to Elite, if you need anything else, feel free to ask.
