How do i get rid of a Bounty?

It doesn't have to be another commander but it can't be any kind of system authority as they cannot collect the bounty on you - hence why the bounty goes dormant. Turn off "Report crimes against me" get scanned by another vessel (not the authority) & get killed. The bounty gets claimed even by an NPC, you get cleared & you can sell the sidey.

Or, be more aware of your surroundings and stop firing when it looks like something other than your target is going to cross your field of fire (this can be seen by looking at the scanner).

I was really weird at Phiagre for me. I was at the HazRes and there was less than 2 days left on the CG. I scanned a ship and realised that it was a Type 9 and clean. Later on while in combat I got a message saying that the Type 9 had died and I was now wanted. I swear I didn't shoot him ever although who knows where my cannon shots ended up. I certainly didn't have any red targets on my radar, although that's not saying much. I know for a fact that there was once two NPCs shooting at me who weren't red. But now I was wanted and had a 6 day bounty! I hadn't been in the HazRes for that long and only stood to lose about 200K so I flew to another system, cashed in what bounties I could and suicide-winded (basically just fired off my lasers inside a station).

Unfortunately I still had the 6 day bounty, this time marked as dormant but at least I was no longer wanted.

Another trip out to the HazRes. Came back, tried to pay off the dormant bounty but was unable to.

I went back to the HazRes. Things were going well when I came across an eagle in a wing of two. I scanned one, then scanned another ship and decided to take out the eagle's wing instead. So I targetted the eagle again and started shooting, but it was a wing of two eagles and the eagle I had targetted hadn't come up as wanted yet. So my dormant bounty was suddenly activated again. This time I decided to risk docking at the station using silent running even though it's a real risk in a ship with a 10m rebuy cost for less than 1m bounties. Luckily I managed it. So I bought a sidewinder again, stepped out, got scanned by the cops and allowed them to kill me.

Next day, back into the FDL, back to the HazRes ... And again this time I accidentally shot someone before they came up wanted (Doh!!!). Fearing the worst I checked my transactions and the dormant bounty had gone after the last suicide. I only had an 8 minute 400cr fine which required a hyper jump out and back in again. Unfortunately by the time I got to the station, the CG had come to an end.

A murder is generally 6000 + 300-400 for aggression.

In my opinion the penalty for murder should be percentage based on your total assets.

If you have 100 million in total assets they should drop a bounty of 10 million on your ass (10% of total assets) as the bounty, plus trigger at least 3 interdictions per 1000Ls you travel within the wanted system, by Vultures, Pythons and Anacondas in groups of 3-5 ships per interdiction.

Murder is murder.

It's the most vile and heinous criminal act in the game, yet all you get is a parking ticket.

Needs to be changed.

As for Wanted status... install heat sinks, use silent running, pop a heatsink, slide into the station. Easy enough to avoid scanning.

I agree that murder should have more consequences.

I'd also like to know if I had accidentally shot someone without realising it, or who exactly is shooting at me in a HazRes. As it is when I see someone shooting my wing-mate I always try to fire at a shot at the attacker so they come up purple on the wing-mate's radar. It's too easy for a miner to get caught in the cross-fire when you've got ten ships all flying around each other.

They could have made it so that the amount of bounty / punishment you are given in a RES corresponds to how much you helped kill them. That would both prevent people from accidentally being labelled as murderers, but would also stop people sniping your kills in open. I always farm a HazRes in private.

And while we're at it, can the NPC's please stop ramming me when I'm stationary!!! It's got to the point whenever I hear an engine coming towards me I immediately boost away. It takes ages for the shields to come up on an FDL.
