How do I get rid of my 13k bounty?

So basically while I was on a mission I saw an unidentified signal source and checked it out. It was a bunch of cannisters. I found a cannister with rare artwork in it so I picked it up. While travelling to a starport with a black market I was attacked by a pirate. I killed him but because the federation security force showed up I got fined 4k. No biggie. I'll make it back by selling the cargo. And sure I did. I look at my bounties and I see 13k in Federation

Help .-.

Write down the name of the system and just avoid it. After 7 days, the bounty will go dormant. After another 7 days it will disappear and become a legacy fine that you can pay off. If you want to hurry the process, buy a sidewinder and go get blown up in the system by a bounty hunter or system authority, then it will go dormant immediately, and you just have to wait 7 days for the dormant bounty to go away and pay it off. It's goofy, but it is what it is.

Kill yourself in a Sidewinder, the other method is a pain until 2.2 comes. You can also high wake out of the system and back in, you'll lose your wanted tag, but you'll get it back as soon as you get scanned

Not quite... After 7 days the bounty will turn into a legacy fine that can be paid off (or not). The bounty will only become dormant if the OP is destroyed while it is active and the bounty is not collected.

Be careful also with the suicidewinder idea. The only way for the bounty to go, and not simply become a dormant bounty is if the bounty is collected, so just flying into the side of the station or getting randomly destroyed won't do it.

If you want to suicide out of the bounty, make sure you are destroyed by a player who collects the bounty, or ensure it is the system authority from the system where you have the bounty that destroy you, as that should mean it is collected and it will then go. It will not become a dormant bounty if it is collected, it will then be gone.

Oh, that's right. I died literally an hour before my last one ran out, so I was thinking it was a 2 week thing. You might as well do the suicidewinder thing though, as it means if you die anytime within the initial 7 days, it effectively resets the "sentence". It's really a bit screwy. Wish they'd revamp the whole crime/punishment thing.

Just for the visual guide..

Sure, the suicidewinder thing works as long as you make sure the bounty is active and collected...

TBH this has nothing to do with revamping crime and punishment though. The fact is, a bounty is meant to be an impediment to risk free play (after all, you broke the in-game law if you got a bounty), and the idea that a player can simply get rid of bounty whenever they decide they want to be clean again is why they have persistence now.

The fact that a bounty goes dormant if you are destroyed within it's timer is already a nod towards lenient gameplay, since you are no longer actually wanted, and you just have to 'fly under the radar' in the system where the dormant bounty persists. :)
