Newcomer / Intro How do I know if I'm playing Horizons?

I recently purchased the game on Steam thanks to their summer sale, and I also got the Horizons license and verified it with the Fdev websit. When I launch the game from my desktop shortcut I get the blue interface, and I have the Elite Dangerous Horizonz 64 bit option selected when I hit "Play" on the Fdev launcher. However when I started my campaign I started out on L3447, which I understand is the starting point of the basic Elite: Dangerous game. How do I know once I am in the game that I am running Horizons?

The simplest way is your start screen. It should feature a little SRV (rover) on the surface of a planet, with a station spinning slowly in the upper right.

I so want to say “when you crash into a planet” but that’s not helpful or that funny.

You may well have simply started your campaign at the basic base. You get a choice of starting with an SRV (moon buggy) on a planet surface base or at L3447. If you started, via Steam, using the Horizons 64 bit option you should be fine. It’s the same way I start up.

It's a little funny :D and it's a rite of passage together with doing the hutton run and getting ganked in open.

if some planets in your system map show a blue halo, aka them beeing marked as land-able, you are in horizon

Isn't there something about that class 1 planetary module in your ship? Guessing if it's not there then you don't have horizons.

Thanks for the replies. I have the rover in my screen when the game loads, so it looks like I'm on Horizon. I also see the blue halos around some of the planets.

Quickest way to tell when in-game is to try and select the Role panel (the one when you look down at your feet). The Role panel is only available in Horizons. In the base game the same keybind zooms into the scanner.

I had the blue rings around planets before I got Horizons. I couldn't land, but the rings were there teasing me.

The planetary module is on all ships and does not depend on your license version. It makes it much easier to upgrade a user's account if FD does not have to go through and modify all the ships. The lack of a planetary module would also be a weight advantage for base game users over Horizons.

You can sell the Planetary Landing Suite though (the slot remains as exclusive). I'm not in game at the moment so couldn't tell what any weight is associated with the module - but presumably it is minimal.

EDIT - Just tested - 425Cr (LYR) - no mass change shown on sale or purchse, purchasing replacement shows no mass associated with the module on its store info screen.

You can also tell by going into the comms panel in open play and request being part of multi-crew. This is Horizons only
