How do I programme 'select' under controls?

I am trying to programme my Saitek x55 so I can push one button to request docking, which I am doing with the Saitek software. When programmong I get as far as having the station name selected, but I cant programme it to 'click' on it. Manually I would just click the joystick fire button to select. I tried programming the fire button as the enter button in the game controls, but does not work .
Any ideas?

Not looked at the saitek s/w for a while so cant remember if you can make it press the fire button in a macro. What I would do is set a second binding for 'select' in game (space bar or whatever) and get the saitek s/w to spit that key out.
