how do i repair a broken ride?

Hi guys, i just got the game and some of my rides broke down. i tryed to put a engineer close to the ride put he keeps walking the other way. Plz tell me what to do

uhh.....I have a mechanic... he's a happy employee (happiness in the green)
He would rather wonder & lollygag in the park.[weird] I am now on my 3rd mechanic. Nothing is broken.....except for the mechanic it seems[down].
I just tried to create a work roster, because...clearly he's confused as to why he's been hired.

Anyone have any ideas?
Maybe i've over looked some things?

Maybe a silly question, but have you made sure that the mechanic can reach the ride itself?
