How do I retrieve my stored ship in another system?

I'd like to retrieve my decked out vulture and go take part in the community goal but it's like almost 300 light years away from me, and then would be another 180+ to the Community Event.

I can see the ship and the location when I access the shipyard option in the menu but I can't find any option to have it retrieved or transited to my location?

Buy a disposable sidewinder. Fly to where it is stored, sell the sidewinder, fly back in your ship.

Also, when you start exploring, anything closer than 1000ly is more or less "home"

This. Stick a fuel scoop in it if you don't want to take the time to dock for fuel, then scamper off to where your ship is. Sell the scoop first, then sell the Sidewinder after you retrieve your ship. You'll more than make up the loss on the Sidewinder hull when you start work on the CG goals.

However, unless you plan to return to the area you're in now, you're better off just flying the ship you already have back to 'base' and swapping it out for the Vulture.

If you have enough cash, I'd avoid the sidewinder and get a hauler, buy an A2 FSD, buy as many D modules as you can to reduce weight, the best fuel scoop you can afford, then go. You'll save a lot of time with 25-28ly and it won't cost you much (a few k). Just remember to sell the modules, then sell the hauler.

You can also take some rare goods with you as you're going to travel a long distance anyway. That way you make a nice and easy profit on the way. (The cargo reduces your jump range, though.)

300 Ly is not that far 12 -15 jumps in a sidey with a fuel scoop. I used to think 100 ly was a generation away, now I am doing 1,000Ly in an evening so the distance is all relative.

This. The Hauler is a miles better disposable cab than the sidey. Strip it of everything and put in a class 3 scoop and you can cross the inhabited bubble in no time as you'll have around 30ly jump range and you can fill the tank in seconds with a class 3 scoop.

When bringing your Vulture back strip it down and put a scoop in the class 4 slot, it fills the tank in seconds which is something you have to do regularly.

Just watch out for dumping modules/weapons that you can't buy where you are! I ended up having to take my Vulture back again to buy 3G beams :D

There was talk backalong about them being sent over by courier or some such. That seems to be on the 'cutting room floor' for the moment...

+1 for the Hauler, although the bigger tank on the Adder will get you more Ly in between scooping. Either will get you across the universe faster than anything, and you'll lose about 3K on the deal, but you might as well fill 'er up with something "HIGH" and make a profit on your run.

The fact that 1.3 will add in drones/bots of some sorts fills me with a faint hope that interstation transfers will be possible in the future for a cost. Even if it was just giant stations which did it I'd be quite happy. But flying is kinda fun in a little ship.

I use my old Cobra for this .... kept it around with minimal spec... gets 25Ly jump range and great for ferrying my Cmdr around :)

Modules you don't lose money on (but some stations don't have E modules for you to buy back, so be wary); ships you lose 10% when selling. So Sidewinder is good for minimal losses.

You may as well take your main ship (which I assume is a trader) with you and trade along the way, gets some rares at the same time.

Since the Vulture has so little power it is my experience that there is always lot of slot space available anyway. So I simply always carry an A4 scoop on the Vulture. That way you don't need to buy sideys or haulers to get to the other side of inhabited space.
