How do I ride my coaster?

I created a coaster by simply placing the "Afterburner" build on some land.

Now I want to ride it, but that seems amazingly difficult. The only thing that even partially works is to choose a ride camera and .. then just wait... and wait... and wait... and sometimes the cars will start moving.

Isn't there a "Start the Ride" button somewhere? Isn't this one of the most popular things to do? How is it supposed to work? I must be missing something very obvious...

Did you choose to test the ride or open the ride before opening the ride camera?

It can take a while sometimes before a coaster launches from the station in test mode. This issue even occurs on official livestreams sometimes.

To ride on your coasters...

1. Make sure that time is running (IOW, the game is not paused).
2. Make sure the coaster is either open or in test mode
3. Select the coaster and click on the camera button at the bottom of the ride's info box.
4. Sit back and enjoy the ride.

If you open (green) the ride you'll have to wait for the timer to end (waiting time of the ride), if you test (orange) it will immediately start if possible (track clear).

I see now. To ride immediately, be in Test Mode and select a camera position. The ride will start directly. Alternatively, be in Ride Open mode and select a camera position - but the ride won't start for some timeout period (ride length maybe) as mentioned above.

Thanks for the help.

In the configuration menu of the coaster you can set the depart delay time. That's why it is waiting when you open the ride, for the timer to run out. You can set a minimum and maximum time.

As regards what to set the station delay times for, in general even very long coasters need no more than 25-30 seconds wait in the station. That's all it takes to reload the train, at least if you have the exit centered on the opposite side of the platform from the entrance and the queue is full.

To summarize:
1. Use a station type where you enter on 1 side and exit on the other.
2. Place the entrance gate near the rear of the train.
3. Place the exit in the center of the train.
4. Set coaster to run with full load
5. Set minimum station wait to 25 seconds
6. Set maximum station wait to 30 seconds
