How do I setup a DS4 to use on the PC version like before?

I used to be able to play this game with my DS4 on PC with full button prompts for the playstation button layout, and everything worked perfectly with DS4windows.

Then, for some reason it was required to use the official PS4 to PC adapter, which I bought just so I could play this game with my DS4, since literally every other game supports the DS4 right out oft he box without the need for the adapter.

Yet, even after getting the adapter, I still have no button prompts like I used to and button maps are terrible, doesn't work like it used to at all.

How do I get this setup properly? I just want it to work like it would on a PS4, except on a PC. Which is how I had it before.

Works on my PC, I don't have an official adapter. It should definitely work wired, getting it to work wireless may be a hassle.

Elite has native PS4 controller support? I had no idea, I've always used Steam's built-in programmable drivers.

I'd like to see the PS4 controller button prompts but at this point I've got the controller mapped exactly how I like it via Steam and I've been using that way for a long time, so I'd rather keep using it with my setup even though it uses Xbox button prompts.

I use a DS4 via cabled connection and DS4Windows. Bluetooth connectivity had issues for me.

I went through the mappings and made a custom profile (then made a backup of it.) I started E:D on the PS4 and wanted the buttons to do the things my hands were accustomed to doing.

Occasionally I have to go through a routine where Windows (10) needs to re-install the driver. Fortunately this only happens at boot time. In-game, never an issue.

I don't get why it's not working for me then. It used to work fine then stopped working after an update. I emailed support and they told me that I had to buy the adapter, that's literally the only reason why I bought the stupid thing since it's way overpriced for what it does. Yet it still doesn't work.

I don't even want to play it wirelessly, I just want it to work.

Here's the email I received from support telling me that the controller only would work with the official dongle:

Thanks for your patience while I've been getting back to you. How are you connecting your DS4 to your PC? The PS4 controller is not natively supported by windows unless using Sony's wireless dongle.

If you've previously been using third party software to make your DS4 work, this will no longer work.

If you are using the official Sony dongle, please let me know!

Would you mind uploading your custom profile?

The DS4 has worked wired from the box with windows. The driver doesn't do everything (the pad is just one big button) but it does work. You have to remap the controls to your satisfaction like it's just another USB controller but it does work.

As an aside, I do have it working wirelessly using a generic Bluetooth dongle and the device's Bluetooth stack. The game just treats it as any other USB controller.

I guess it's working now, I just reinstalled DS4windows and it's working. I don't know what happened, but around 8 or 7 months back DS4windows would no longer work with ED. Maybe some deal with Sony to sell those dongles? Either way, I'm just glad I can finally play this again the way I want.
