Newcomer / Intro How do I tell humans from NPCs in open play?

This may seem like a really dumb question but I've only been playing for a few hours and I really can't tell the difference. I don't even know if I've seen other players yet, which means the game is either doing a very good job simulating a living universe or other players simply aren't interested in attacking a harmless, bountyless newbie in his starter ship.

The game does a very good job simulating a living universe in that the universe is huge and life is concentrated around tiny clusters. You will rarely encounter other commanders in outer systems. If you want to, look for ones where most players gather, like Sol or Lave I guess.

Other than that, it is as Cody said.

On the scanner human-piloted ships are shown as hollow blips while NPCs are solid. Also the names of human players as shown on the HUD and in the contacts list always start with "CMDR ...".

OP,

Just to add to the replies, Triangles mean Hard Points deployed, Squares are Hard Points retracted. This applies to both AI's and Commanders.

Fly Safe & Regards
