Newcomer / Intro How do I thrust forward in my ship

I just purchased the game for the Xbox One and it looks amazing. I just have one problem...I can't start my ship moving at all!!! I will start a training mission and it says "fly to this point" but when I try to move my ship it won't move at all...all I do is stand still. I hit every button move every control but nothing and it's getting frustrating
How do I start moving my ship aka thrusting forward??
HELP!!!!

Hello, commander and welcome to the Big Black.

A couple more questions:

Which training mission?

Is it just forward, or are you unable to move at all (rotation, lateral thrusters)

Are you floating in space? In that case you probably don't have the controls configured. Go to the control options and try resetting to default with your controller. If it doesn't help check the "Flight throttle" section to find out whether everything is bound, then do the same for Rotations and thrust.

Or are you docked at the station? It that case you might just overlooked a Launch button in the middle of the HUD. Or maybe you have pressed it and flight checklist appeared on the top right. It that case you have to "check" all the tick-boxes by performing the required flight control operations.

If it isn't any of these, you'll have to give us more details, I'm afraid. Good luck for now!

Also, there is a dedicated Xbox section, here on the forums. I'm not saying you're in the wrong place for newcomer help, quite the opposite and we will try to advise you to the last breath, but if your problem is somewhat tied to the controller, for example, the guys over there may be able to troubleshoot you more quickly.

Xbox controller key bindings? If you check them they may tell you if your throttle is bound to a specific button on the controller. I don't play on Xbox but I assume that there are already default bindings for the controller. Throttle up and throttle down will get you going........

....... surely you haven't had time to do any mods to the loaner Sidewinder yet so power management shouldn't be a problem as the ship is still stock standard.

Yea, I don't think it's a power related problem. In training missions...

Oops! Sorry!

Yeah; Xbox controller bindings. As a matter of fact last time I had a look at CQC (not that I have ever taken to it seriously) I think I noticed some of my PC key bindings had defaulted or reset somehow. Perhaps training missions have the same issue.

"Flight assist on... flight assist off"?

I'm unable to move at all. Example...training where you have to destroy the targets you are told tom thrust forward but no matter what button or trigger I press I can't move at all. How do I move??

If you can move through the menus, check the controls in the options and reset them to the default.
What button does what, that's you'll have to ask the Xbox guys, I'm afraid.

Also, I know it's probably a stupid question on Xbox, but did you have your controller plugged in before you started the game? If not, Elite won't load the default scheme for it.

Don't know about the specific setup on the XBox, but I'm using the XBone controller on the PC, and assuming the key bindings are similar, thrust is controlled with the two shoulder buttons (above the triggers), right shoulder increases thrust, left shoulder decreases.

Otherwise, I'd suggest you head over to the XBox forums, they're a friendly bunch over there (especially compared to the madness that is Dangerous Discussions...).
