How do I uninstall the game (not just the launcher)?

Hi,

As I'm having issues starting the game for some reason, I thought I would try to reinstall it. I wanted to remove it first but the only uninstall I can see is the launcher. How do I uninstall the actual game so the launcher can download a fresh install?

Should be a file called "unins000.exe" in the folder you installed ED to.. tried running that?

Otherwise delete the folder you installed ED to.

Thanks, the "unins000.exe" just runs the Launcher Uninstaller. N0t 100% sure where ED was installed to as there was no option during the install process but as far as I can see this went into the user/xxx/AppData/local/Frontier_Developments. Does this sound like the right place? There is also a similar folder called /Frontier Developments (ie without the underscore) which seems to contain only the user settings (key bindings etc).

I wish ED would make the install location a bit more obvious...

use the search bar on windows menu and delete everything relating to "frontier" "elite" and anything else you can think of ... then reinstall .. im sure the uninstall option should work tho which seems strange, im assuming you tried from the "control panel" first.. not just from the menu on start bar.

I think if you go to add/remove programs that elite dangerous is simply called "dangerous" so just try removing/uninstalling that?

Hi thanks for your help. I deleted the frontier_dangerous folder and that seemed to do the trick. Reinstalled and working again now. :)

FWIW

  • From the launcher if you click your email address (top right) you can select "uninstall game" which removes ED.
  • Then from Add/Remove programmes in your control panel you can uninstall the launcher.
  • Manually delete any orphaned folders on your HDD that may be left as part of the process.
  • Finally, something I swear by but use at your own risk - install CCleaner and clean your registry.

That's how you totally remove ED from your system (other than an OS wipe :D)
