How do I visit our solar system and Earth?

I recalled asking about Earth looking all beige and cruddy in FFE.. the answer was there was an error in the code which caused it to display like a Venus type planet. One of the more obvious bugs that shipped out with the game.

They didn't catch it at the time because the secondary starting point was Mars... whoops...

Also all this talk of zombies reminds me of the zombie Russian cosmonauts from Star Command

lol

In FFE (the previous game to ED) which is set fifty years before in 3250, Earth was totally obscured by pollution (the fictional rational for the game engine back in 1993 not being able to render continents effectively) - though it was completely clear in 3200 (with the simpler vector graphics utilised in FE2)

Either it will still be a Venus-like ball of smog, or there'll have been some major atmospheric cleanup in the intervening fifty years.

Either way, it will be interesting to see if the icecaps have survived in 3300.

Cheers,

Drew.

Yeah, I thought that it was a ball of overpopulated pollution in the early expansion days and it got cleaned up by the time of the Elite games? In my head I'm imagining, when we finally get to land and walk around, that we dirty spacer scum will be about as welcome on the Federation's pristine homeworld as Serenity was in the Core. It'd be kinda funny if the landing fees were huge and you got fines for no good reason.

First place i looked for was wolf 359 which is close to Sol. Hope theres somekind of memorial there! We all know there WILL be when we finally reach the stars in a ship named Enterprise.

I seem to recall in FE2, Earth being primarily an expensive place for rich people to live and a major tourist spot? All the actual running of the Federation was moved off-world to Mars, and industry mostly to other systems with better resources for it.

The sudden change to smoggy hell-hole in FFE was a bit confusing in that context.
