How do people feel about Cannons?

Cannons and Frag Cannons are by far my favorite weapons in this game.

I'm really glad to see different versions of them coming up with 1.3

They are really fun to use and thats what really matters.

i have 3 beams with 2 med canons on my PvE Python and it can wreck anything fast. in PvP i change the canons out for MC, if your up against a decent player you will find it hard to hit any subsystem targeted

Cannons are the best subsystem weapon IMO, if you want something to do that you use them, if you don't I'd use something different.

I also wouldn't use 3C3 anyway, two max they hit so hard having an additional one won't change if you hit or not.

I have 3 fixed class 3 cannons on my Python, and while they're fun to use and they have a satisfying impact, does anyone feel like they're a bit underpowered? They feel a bit more like rockets because of the trailing effect and they're a bit slow, plus they have some sort of explosive effect on impact, which makes them feel a bit like free-fired mini-rockets, not that I have a problem with that, but I feel like they should to a bit more damage.

How does everyone else feel about cannons?

i know this pain.

I used to run 3 fixed large beams and 4pips to WEP...everything melted before me, the 2 gimballed class 2 cannon were just for passing lovetaps fhtoomsh BOOM on Sidewinders :) Eagles and Vipers I had to take more seriously due to my fixed main guns, anything bigger was toasted by the beams without consideration to the cannon.

One of my boys kept going on and on about large cannon and so I experimented with them; was largely dissapointing, especially the underside large slot which even gimpalled never meshed well with the 2 large beams.

In the end I dropped the cannon and lasers and swapped to Plasma cannon as they are devastating and have less travel time and thus easier to use. In my zealotry I've even ran 4PAs (2c3, 2c2) as I was so happy with the results of my switching from large cannon....but that was a little too much heat, even by 3Large fixed beams standards!

Currently I run a Large Burst (for the small stuff) 2 Large PAs, and 2 medium cannon...because as much as the large cannon was a disappointment I can't get the fhtoomsh BOOM out of my system, so I stick with the mediums.

I really used to like them but they don't seem very good anymore. The projectile speed is a bit too low or the damage, upping one or the other would really help.
While they're at it it would be good to give the frag cannons more ammo, they're good fun but no where near enough ammo.

They look badass in the Cobra's mediums. Love the sound. And it'll get better with 1.3 I hear!

They're lethal against sub-targets too. Dunno really why so many people find them problematic to hit stuff with, I can unload them with satisfactory (and satisfying) accuracy.

I can confirm that the "secret" is to get always very close to the target and you're fine. OTOH how can they get better in the 1.3?

Love 'me - just have to be up close and personal for them to be effective. Ideally within 500m of your target; the smaller the target, the closer you'll need to be.

It does take a LOT of shots to take down other ships. I fly an Asp with 5 cannons.... takes 3 volleys to take down an Adder (assuming shields are down first). That's up to 25 individual rounds, though I'm sure not all hit. An Eagle will take a couple of volleys. So they're no longer anywhere near as powerful as they were before the game was released, BUT they're still very efficient against hulls. They're basically cheaper and less powerful versions of dumbfire missiles, in my book.

Using class 1 cannons? I LOVE cannons, my favorite kinetic weapon in the game so far. With my Clipper - I use my fire 1 as solely beam weapons to melt shields, then unleash cannons as soon as they drop. I like when shieldless eagles try to scan - when they just stop right in front of you. I just wait for it to show wanted and bam 1 shot from my cannon and eagles are toast. For big ships you just get close, break shields and 3-4 volleys are dropping Condas and Pythons as I pop their Powersupply in no time.

I've been using cannons for the last couple of PVE builds I ran.
On the Asp I used 4 class 1 gimballed cannons to take out the power plant on anything larger than an Asp. 2 medium pulse lasers to strip the shields and then several volleys to finish the ships off.

On the Fer de Lance I used 4 pulse lasers and a huge cannon - VERY effective against the larger ships and really cheap to supply.

Finally on my newly aquired Python I use 3 large Pulse lasers and 2 medium cannons. Anacondas never went down that fast.

After trying fixed and gimballed weapons for PVE I've now settled for gimbals only as their time to kill seems significantly lower than the fixed ones - so I ain't no expert on the fixed types and their capabilities.

Go give the canons a shot ;)
