How do people find Alien crashes?

I may be very wrong but I think most were found via satellite messages and/or galnet messages which pinpoint (or at least near enough) the spot.

I used the forums. The system, planet and coordinates were all there; otherwise i would have run out of fuel looking.

Hey FD : this guy is not even a hater, he's just telling the truth. Maybe it is time to stop your private RPG with your CANNON buddies (I love them actually ! Honest !) and start working on the gameplay aspects of your FD flagship , i. e. Elite : Dangerous ? Because, to be blunt, the endless cryptography stuff is getting OOOOOOLLLDD !

Just my two cents. Just saying !

I wish I was English like my hero Tj.
as for all the things found for the first time in elite dangerous... devs team and peoples near to them tell to some fan were are all the new things, all for adverstinting.
and some youtuber like obsidian after do a video of how incredible all is...

Actually no. That's not accurate at all.

I don't mind puzzles and cryptography. But it should all be solvable in game. None of the the way it currently is done. Entirely stupid.

Although you have a point, calling it stupid is well... stupid. Thats the beauty of Elite that no other game does. It wont change so get used to it. Some of the events to either find or solve things in and out of game, brings people together. Im from the UK and I have friends from these "stupid" out of game happenings from all over the world, to which I would never have met, surely thats a good thing?

You act like it would be impossible to put a spectral analyzer in the game as a ship module or such. It isn't like the devs aren't already spending time using one in reverse.

Yes the way they currently do it is stupid. Beyond stupid. So much of playing the game needlessly takes place outside of the game and there is no reason for it.

Well the 1000s of CMDRs (yes 1000s) would say there is reason for it. Player groups for starters, I bet you've been to a player made factions station, probably many, that communicate alot outside of the game. Its what drives elite

I didnt say it would be impossible at all, its just the way Elite (fdev) do things.

They do things the way and where they do them because there is no alternative. Not because it's preferred or better.

Well thats your opinion, however mine is different and many others will have different opinions as well, thats what the forums and threads are for. Fly safe CMDR o7

I don't act like it would be impossible. As it is right now, it would remove every puzzle because there is no such functionality, but if they did add it, it would actually reduce complexity. It would have to be solvable alone. There's no way to discuss or collaborate, and in fact pretty much no game allows that. At that point, you're back to outside of game help. At that point, it's a waste of dev time to add this to the game. Much more important things to work on.

Once the star is narrowed down and they go searching planets/moons that are 1:1 scale it seems like a lot of land to search.[woah]

Thrangoid base/crash site is spot able from the orbital cruise, its even glowing a little, its a very distinguished spot on the surface. You just need some dedication/insanity to fly and spot it...

There does seem to be an appetite for in game science tools from a large proportion of the player base.

It seems a shame that some folks are so keen to dismiss the idea.

I just see there's absolutely nothing real to gain. What they need to do is get the message out more that there are these mysteries out there to be interacted with.

If I never came to the forums, and didn't read Galnet in game (who would?) there is no way I'd even know there was anything to find, much less know where to look.

Dunno about you guys but that's bad game design to me. All these characters, all these factions, all these mission boards, nobody is saying a word about anything? Build a framework around which you can drape missions and discoveries, then use something else to give the player the information. Yeah that makes total sense.

Without information being leaked from the Devs to their pet players 99% of Elite would be undiscovered.
