How do we kick Aegis out of Obsidian Orbital?

Like many of you out there as well, I'm sure, I didn't help build Obsidian Orbital for it to be an arm of Aegis, nor to be used as a forward operating base to launch attacks against the Thargoids from.

Many of us at the time originally conceived Obsidian Orbital (well before even submitting and voting on its name) as being a neutral scientific research facility and outpost of humanity that would serve to help explorers out in the black exploring outward toward the rim of the galaxy and as a place to do legitimate scientific research in the Pleiades, an attraction in their own right, free from the oversight and jurisdiction of private interests and political factions in the bubble. Keep in mind that this was well before that fateful last jump of Jaques Station and the founding of Colonia.

Unfortunately, this was something that was never really achieved beyond just building the station and its facilities. It soon fell into ill repute after construction, and at best served as an outpost or trade hub for some for a time. It's since been usurped by Aegis and attacked by the Thargoids (whether retaliation, preemptive strike, strategic positioning, or purely hostile aggression on their part is beside the point of this thread) and now needs repair to restore its services and infrastructure.

I have little to no interest in repairing Obsidian Orbital only to have it used primarily as a base to wage war against the Tharoids, something which it was never intended to be used as in the first place. Rather, I'd much prefer it be used as an outpost of humanity, perhaps even an embassy of sorts, and that it fall in line with the original vision of its construction.

How do we make this happen and is it even a possibility? How do we free Obsidian Orbital?

Become a Thargoid and rid the universe of humanity. Keep a few survivors at Obsidian Orbital as a Thargoid tourist attraction/zoo.

^^^ this :D

Seriously though, when do we get to buy and fly the Thargoid ships... that'd raise the PvP to a whole new level

Any evidence of this?

Considering the Thargoids weren't even implemented in the game yet and most of the discussions surrounding building Obsidian Orbital at the time, I think it's more than reasonable to assume that many, if not most Commanders that helped build Obsidian Orbital didn't do so to have it turn into a forward operating military base.

I think you may be reading what I said in the OP out of context.

...

Oh, to be fair though, this thread is sort of a continuation of a tangent discussion that took place here. → https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php/400579-Save-Obsidian-Orbital-Humanity-UNITE!

Cheers.

Given, there's no indication as to where the core "Thargoid Systems" are (apart from speculating they might be behind some of the region locks...and that all interactions have been in Systems the Thargoids have entered either to attack stations or to kidnap/consume stranded Pilots...I think there's a fair argument that any Aegis activity has been purely DEFENSIVE...

Whether someone sees Aegis's or the Thargoids' actions as being defensive or offensive is kind of beside the point. I'd rather Obsidian Orbital remain, or rather, move further toward becoming a neutral outpost of humanity, dedicated more toward scientific research and exploration than militant action.

As far as I'm aware, this is the main reason for its construction in the first place.

What can we do? I mean really...best way of getting a message across would ironically be to do absolutely nothing and let it burn. OO has become something it was never intended to be...and not only that, but they incredibly stingy with the money. So by taking part, yer repairing a station at a cost of time and patience just so the more toxic players have a place to chill out?

Aegis want their station saved then they can afford to pay to have it fixed...one does not run a charity service after all. Best way logically to evict Aegis is to do nothing and let the thargoids deal with them as they have been. To rebuild from the ashes, there has to first be ashes...maybe by that time, once could earn a decent amount of coin fer the trouble ^

Incidentally, I also think that is an invalid assumption. :)

Considering that Aegis isn't even present in Maia as a minor faction it might prove to be extremely difficult to get Aegis as a faction out of Maia

Obsidian Orbital wasn't and isn't "usurped" by Aegis. Aegis has/had a laboratory there.

Sothis was founded by Sirius Corp as the glittering centrepiece of a massive multi-world for-profit terraforming and deep-space colonization megaproject. It's now become a Federal outpost, a favourite haunt of Fed rank-grinders. No-one is likely to be able to hand Ceos and Sothis back to their rightful owners (Sirius Corp) until and unless the rank-grinding mechanism ceases.

Which goes to show: space colonization projects can easily become something other than what their "original vision of its construction" were, especially in the fast-paced, player-driven political mechanism we have in ED.

I personally gave up on the whole "Obsidian Orbital is for explorers" paradigm when the place was handed over to anarchist scum. And that was back when NPC pirates were still psycho player-killers who murdered explorers for refusing to hand over non-existent cargo; that was what made Maia a no-go-zone for explorers.

AEGIS rule is leagues better than the [hack-spitooie] Ant Hill Mob.

Someone has been watching too much DS9

//How do we kick Aegis out of Obsidian Orbital?//

Let the station burn to cinders and when Aegis leaves cos there's nothing left, rebuild. [up]

I hauled my butt off to help build Obsidian Orbital.

I also helped to rescue survivors from the burning hulk.

But I AM NOT going to bother repairing it as long as Aegis has control over that StarPort. I have not fired a shot at a Thargoid ship yet. I am still unconvinced that we have properly identified our attackers beyond all doubt. A classic case of race discrimination. (They all look the same to me, so damn the torpedos and fire at will!)

No... I have a second fleet of ships based in Merope on a planetary base. I don't need OO to operate out of the Pleiades.

Most likely you, since I honestly have no idea what you're referring to. I mean, other than the name "Deep Space?" I haven't watched the show since it originally aired on TV and coundn't really tell much about the main plot points, though from what I remember it was a fairly decent show. I didn't get into it as much as Next Generation though.

Cheers.
